Ambulatory Oncology/ Instructor (BS or MS)/ CLINICAL NURSE EDUCATOR Mass General Brigham Cancer Institute (MGBCI) at Brigham and Women’s Hospital
Full time / 40 Hours/ Rotating Shift
Job Summary:
Summary: The Clinical Nurse Educator promotes a just culture and a culture of safety and is positioned to be accessible to the nurse in direct care. The role requires competency in adult learning principles and a sound clinical nursing knowledge base.
While this position supports an MGBCI cost center operationally, the Clinical Nurse Educator functions within the Brigham and Women’s Hospital Department of Nursing professional governance structure, and all nursing staff maintain reporting alignment through BWH nursing leadership.
Hours are dependent on the program and the needs of the units / practice.
Addendum:
RN performs waived point of care (POC) testing. Requires at a minimum a high school diploma or equivalent as described in the Federal Register, 42 CFR, Subpart M 493.1403-1495. (addendum added 2/2019)
Federal law requires: For RN whose responsibilities include the performance of moderate complexity POC testing, an associate's or bachelor's degree in chemical, physical, or biological science or medical laboratory technology as required as described in the Federal Register, 42 CFR, Subpart M 493.1403- 1495. (addendum added 8/2021)

Essential Functions:
Orientation, Training and Professional Development
-Assists with central classes and orientation activities as needed.
-Participate in educational needs assessments and identify learning needs of patients and staff.
-Facilitate opportunities and developmental experiences necessary for staff to successfully precept, teach, and mentor others.
-Facilitate educational offerings that incorporate new initiatives, products, equipment, technology, policies, procedures, or regulations in either a classroom, a simulated laboratory setting, or an assigned patient care area.
-Track and monitor orientation progress for all department of nursing hires.
-Support competency training and annual Health Stream completion by all staff.
-Conduct an ongoing evaluation of educational offerings by using the latest evidence, scholarly information, and cost-effectiveness strategies.
-Serves as a nursing practice leader, coach, and mentor to staff.
-Participates in self-performance appraisal process in an ongoing manner.
-Seeks feedback regarding role performance from their respective nurse leaders, peers, and others.
-Provides formal and informal opportunities for staff to develop personal career goals and recognizes their achievement.
-Provides ongoing formal and informal feedback regarding professional development to staff members.
-Facilitate and support peer-to-peer education.
-Consultation/Collaboration
-Provides informal consultation on education and practice issues.
-Participates in committees and task forces as designated by the Professional Development Manager.
-Initiates and maintains effective collaborative relationships.
-Responds effectively to requests for education and training.
-Participates in developing nursing department policies and procedures with designated work teams.
Direct Patient Care:
-Provides direct patient care in both collaboratively planned and emergent situations.
-Serves as a role model in providing expert care to patients.
-Engages in direct patient care experiences that promote, facilitate, and evaluate staff’s critical thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities.
-Models clinical decision-making skills and critical thinking behaviors in the clinical setting.
-Provides direct clinical support for orientation and training.
-Collaborates with nursing staff to manage emergency clinical situations.
-Serves as a clinical expert in patient care areas, maintaining and enhancing competency through a variety of methods, including but not limited to direct patient care, professional conferences, and participation in divisional journal clubs.
Quality / Research
-Participates in quality and process improvement initiatives as designated by the Professional Development Manager.
-Participates in Collaborative Care Reviews and supports improvement efforts as designated by the Professional Development Manager.
-Supports the education of new initiatives.
-Supports regulatory preparation and required learning.
-Implements audit plan as directed by the Professional Development Manager.
-Develops programs that are responsive to needs identified through divisional / unit quality data.
-Uses new information and/or research findings in developing and revising program content.
Qualifications:
Instructor / Clinical Nurse Educator Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree Nursing (BSN) required; Master's Degree Nursing (MSN) (or) Doctorate Nursing (DNP) preferred.

Current certification required or to be attained within two-year period from date of hire. Certification must be maintained while employed in this position.

Current registered nursing licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Minimum two years of clinical experience as a clinical nurse with demonstrated evidence of leadership progression.

Demonstrated evidence of competent nursing practice in clinical area or specialty.
-
Competency in adult learning principles and a sound clinical nursing knowledge base.
Additional Qualifications for MGBCI Educator:

- Minimum three years of oncology clinical experience as a clinical nurse required.

- Ambulatory nursing experience preferred.
-
- Infusion clinical experience preferred.
-
- OCN or BMT‑CN certification preferred.
-
- Experience in developing and facilitating simulation and education programs preferred.
