About Us: A division within the Department of Emergency Medicine, the Center for Disaster Medicine (CDM) (https://www.massgeneral.org/disaster-medicine) houses numerous grant-funded programs that focus on Disaster Medicine, Healthcare Preparedness and Emergency Management, and High Consequence Infectious Diseases (HCID). The CDM team is comprised of interdisciplinary subject matter experts, including national and international experts in their fields, leading the development of preparedness programs and resources to meet current and future healthcare challenges. About the Work:
Under the direction of the Professional Development Specialist, the Project Manager plays a key role in advancing training, education, and operational readiness for HCIDs within the Regional Emerging Special Pathogens Treatment Center (RESPTC) and Special Pathogens Unit at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). This position supports the planning, coordination, and execution of education and training initiatives for the MGH Biothreats Response Team and the broader Special Pathogens Program. This position is grant-funded and is contingent on continued availability of these funds.
In addition to providing administrative and project management support, the Project Manager contributes to programmatic development, team engagement, and continuous improvement efforts. This includes supporting strategic initiatives, fostering collaborative team dynamics, and identifying opportunities for program growth and innovation. The Project Manager also helps ensure the operational readiness of the RESPTC, including the maintenance and availability of personal protective equipment (PPE), supply management, and the preparedness of HCID-designated care spaces across the Emergency Department, Biocontainment Unit, and Special Pathogens Units.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Project Management & Operational Responsibilities:

Actively involved in the RESPTC project management design, development, and implementation while ensuring key initiatives and grant deliverables are completed on time.

Leads biothreats project management plans and activities to ensure timely completion of deliverables. Identifies potential barriers to completion of team member assignments and intervenes to ensure project timelines are met.

Supports the development and implementation of a robust internal training program to maintain our capabilities as the RESPTC and as a frontline facility.

Supports the preparation of content that is reflective of the best evidence available and which is consistent with department and organizational policy
-
Supports the planning and implementation of internal trainings, exercises, and associated documentation
-
Support the overall readiness of the RESPTC.

Maintain AV communication systems used in the Biocontainment Unit
-
Maintain and ensure the availability of appropriate PPE and supplies for response
-
Support updates to policies and procedures for the RESPTC
-
Build and/or sustain relationships with key departments such as Infection Control, the Emergency Department, Buildings and Grounds, and Materials Management.

Participates in the development of after-action reports and continuous improvement plans following internal RESPTC and Special Pathogens Program trainings and exercises.

Supports multiple aspects within the RESPTC program and CDM and assumes responsibility for all assigned projects simultaneously.

Attends all relevant meetings; contributes ideas and monitors the planning process as required.

Escalates identified delays and/or challenges with specific projects as necessary to ensure steps towards remediation are taken.

Prepares and contributes to programmatic reports, as assigned.
Response Operations
-
Serves as a PPE Manager and provides additional technical support during activations of the RESPTC.

Oversees the management of supplies and equipment to support RESPTC program response operations as it pertains to biothreats supplies and equipment.

Supports appropriate internal after-action follow-up and process improvement post-response for any activations of the RESPTC.
Human Resource Management:

Supports the Professional Development Specialist with the recruitment of Biothreats Response Team members

Participates in team training and support of all team personnel

Collaborates with the Professional Development Specialist to ensure team member competencies are up to date and track evaluation
-
Supports compliance with national patient safety goals, accrediting agency standards, and quality initiatives

Working Conditions

This position will be hybrid in nature and the incumbent will work with their supervisor to establish a final schedule; however, candidates should anticipate being on campus 3 days per week.

May be required to travel to offsite facilities and to attend meetings outside of regularly scheduled hours, as needed.

May be required to report to the hospital or offsite locations outside of normal business hours to respond to events that require emergency support.

Must be available by pager/cell phone outside of normal business hours during assigned on-call shifts.
