POSITION SUMMARY:

The Marathon El Paso Refinery is seeking a Reliability Manager to lead site-wide reliability efforts and drive long-term asset performance improvements. This role provides strategic vision, leadership, and technical oversight to ensure safe, compliant, and reliable refinery operations. The Reliability Manager directly supervises a team of Reliability Engineers composed of Fixed Equipment, Rotating Equipment, Electrical, Instrumentation/Analyzer, and Corrosion/Metallurgy who serve as subject matter experts in their respective disciplines. The position reports directly to the Maintenance Director and works closely with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and Leadership teams to achieve shared objectives. The Reliability Department is responsible for defining, implementing, and monitoring preventive and predictive maintenance programs; supporting reliability investigations; establishing training requirements; recommending equipment reliability improvements; and maintaining compliance with the Mechanical Integrity Program.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directs the activities of employees within reporting structure. Defines goals and objectives and provides feedback on performance and career goals of direct reports.

  • Manages staff effectively to reduce equipment downtime, improve efficiency, control costs, and anticipate additional future improvements.

  • Serve as a champion for advancing a reliability mindset and culture at their refinery.

  • Develops and monitors key performance indicators for reliability program effectiveness.

  • Supports Area Team concepts and cooperative efforts among all refinery groups and departments.

  • Actively support and contribute to refinery safety initiatives and continuous improvement programs.

  • Shares broad knowledge of Mechanical Integrity and understanding of industry standards with the organization and develops their personnel to be specialists in their disciplines.

  • Leads their group to plan, develop, and manage preventative maintenance programs to ensure the cost-effective reliability of site assets considering typical failure modes and equipment history.

  • Possesses a familiarity of industry accepted reliability tools and techniques to share with their personnel and refinery organization.

  • Administers overall management of asset information and data to include equipment, testing, and maintenance records and ensuring accuracy and completeness.

  • Supports their group in data analysis and assessment to drive the organization to data driven decisions.

  • Provides guidance to their personnel for well executed Root Cause Analysis for incidents and general equipment failures so appropriate and effective corrective actions can be executed.

  • Participates in the Reliability Advisory Group and assists other refineries with adopting best practices within their area of expertise.

  • Analyze data to identify, manage, and address site bad actors and reliability threats.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering discipline required.
  • Eight (8) years or more relevant experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to audiences ranging from hourly personnel to refinery leadership.
