SUMMARY:

Marathon Petroleum Company is seeking a Supply Chain Director for our Catlettsburg, KY, refinery. This leader will provide strategic direction for all supply chain processes, procedures, and personnel supporting operations, maintenance, turnarounds, projects, and facilities.

As a member of the Refinery Leadership Team (RLT), the Supply Chain Director will contribute to the cross‑functional group of senior leaders responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the 290 mbpd facility. The role focuses on setting direction, managing risk, solving complex problems, and ensuring regulatory and operational excellence.

The role oversees a team of 16 experienced Supply Chain professionals—including materials management—responsible for managing a significant portfolio of indirect spend aligned with the refinery’s operational and reliability needs. The Director will drive strong commercial performance, effective sourcing strategies, consistent execution of Supply Chain best practices, and customer‑focused materials management across all workstreams.

This position reports directly to the Refining Supply Chain Operations Senior Director.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Drives the Supply Chain agenda, strategy, and execution plan in collaboration with and in support of local business strategy, secures buy-in from senior leadership and other key stakeholders across the Business and the Function.
  • Consults with the local Refinery Leadership Team to ensure all refinery contracting, procurement, and material control activities are conducted in an objective, ethical manner in accordance with the principles of transparency and segregation of duties, and in compliance with SOX 404 regulations, US Export Controls, US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, and other applicable laws and spend is effectively managed.
  • Evaluates and improves opportunities to implement best practices at the refinery, leading to a high performing suite of suppliers for the refinery.
  • Develops strategies to ensure material procurement, services procurement, and warehousing are optimized to maximize value, improve service levels, and reduce risk in the supply chain for the refinery.
  • Continuously improves alignment and engagement with the local Refinery Leadership Team, internal stakeholders, and suppliers.
  • Leads the refining supply chain organization to ensure the refinery benefits from commercially optimized spend.
  • Provides leadership to the team, including performance coaching and developmental opportunities, to develop qualified subject matter experts who are knowledgeable of industry leading practices.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Ten (10) or more years’ business relevant experience.
  • Two (2) or more years’ leadership experience.
