Job Summary:

About San Fran:

Join the team at San Fran, Wellington's iconic live music venue with a place in New Zealand's music history since the 1960s. Renowned for its high standard of live production, San Fran has built an international reputation as the capital's home for the world's best touring acts alongside the finest local and national talent. As part of the Live Nation Group, be part of a venue that truly represents Wellington on the world stage.

About the role:

Are you a passionate and people-focused Duty Manager ready to take the reins at one of Wellington's most iconic live music venues? San Fran is a high-volume grassroots venue in the heart of the capital, and we're looking for someone who loves live music as much as they love running a tight ship.

In this part-time role (minimum 30 hours), you'll be the go-to person on the floor, ensuring every event night runs smoothly from doors to close. You'll lead FOH staff, keep on top of F&B operations, and make sure everything is above board when it comes to NZ licensing compliance.

If you think you have what it takes, apply now with your resume and a cover letter outlining why you're the perfect fit for this role.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Operational management: Oversee venue operations across live music and club events, coordinating staff, security, production crew, artists, and hirers for seamless event delivery.
  • Staff leadership: Supervise and inspire FOH teams throughout service, delegating tasks to maintain high performance standards and fluid workflow.
  • F&B operations: Manage food and beverage procedures through opening and closing, including till reconciliation, stock ordering, and reporting.
  • Licensing and compliance: Ensure all service aligns with San Fran's host responsibility policy and the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012, maintaining incident logs and managing intoxication monitoring.
  • Event reporting: Handle administrative duties including event reporting, sales reporting, and maintaining the San Fran Food Control Plan.
  • Stakeholder communication: Liaise closely with Bar and Venue Managers, keeping communication clear and consistent across all teams.

What you’ll bring:

  • Valid LCQ and Duty Manager's Licence: A current NZ Duty Manager's Licence is essential for this role.
  • Hospitality experience: 3+ years in a high-volume hospitality or events environment, with the ability to stay calm and think critically under pressure.
  • Licensing knowledge: A firm understanding of NZ liquor licensing laws and council regulations around noise and alcohol service.
  • Passion for live music: Genuine love for live music and a solid knowledge of the Wellington and wider Aotearoa music scene.
  • Leadership skills: Confident leading staff, production, and security teams, with strong conflict resolution and decision-making ability.
  • Flexibility and commitment: Availability to work evenings, weekends, and late nights, plus a Level 1 First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain one).

The Benefits:

  • A vibrant, music-focused workplace fostering creativity and collaboration.
  • Opportunities for professional development and career advancement.
  • A flexible approach to when and where you work, designed to support balance in all aspects of life.
  • Access to concerts, events, and other entertainment perks.
  • A diverse, equitable workplace where every voice matters.
  • Comprehensive benefits, from volunteer days to wellness programs and mental health support.

Equal Opportunities:

We are passionate and committed to our people and go beyond the rhetoric of diversity and inclusion. You will be working in an inclusive environment and be encouraged to bring your whole self to work. We will do all that we can to help you successfully balance your work and Homelife. As a growing business, we will encourage you to develop your professional and personal aspirations, enjoy new experiences, and learn from the talented people you will be working with. It's talent that matters to us and we encourage applications from people irrespective of their gender, race, sexual orientation, religion, age, disability status or caring responsibilities.
