Leidos is seeking a Radio Frequency (RF) Engineer to support our customer in advancing its research and development mission. This role involves hands-on technical exploration across concept development, technology assessment, experimentation, analysis, documentation, integration, and transition of emerging capabilities.
The Radio Frequency (RF) Engineer will contribute to a wide range of research and engineering activities, including:
- Conducting research, analysis, and engineering concept studies, and documenting technical findings.
- Supporting the development and refinement of analytical models that predict system signatures and characterize system effects.
- Participating in demonstrations, exercises, and experimental events.
You will serve as the RF representative on cross‑functional teams, providing technical guidance to junior engineers, leading experimentation and study activities, and delivering recommendations informed by your assessments.
This position operates in a hybrid environment, with work performed at two primary customer sites (Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD and Adelphi, MD) as well as from a home office. Work location will vary depending on task requirements, security considerations, and facility or equipment needs. Proximity to Aberdeen Proving Ground and Adelphi is required due to on‑site work needs.
This role is open to candidates with a wide range of experience levels. The scope of the position and corresponding compensation will be aligned with the candidate’s background and expertise.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Design and execute experiments evaluating the effects of RF signals on various materials. This may involve developing mathematical models, simulation inputs, or collaborating with others to replicate or adjust signal characteristics.
- Develop, refine, and employ prototype tools for signal generation, measurement, observation, and optimization.
- Analyze and summarize key findings and present results to government customers and technical teams.
- Review and assess external research, theories, and concepts; prepare summaries and recommendations for the government technical team.
- Identify, design, adapt, demonstrate, and evaluate specialized tools for generating, transmitting, and measuring signals and associated effects.
- Document procedures, protocols, and best practices; develop troubleshooting guides and standard operating procedures to ensure repeatability and consistency in testing and experimentation.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline with 4–12+ years of related experience, or a Master’s degree with 2–10+ years of related experience. Equivalent professional experience may be considered in place of a degree.
- Active DoD Secret clearance and the ability to obtain TS/SCI.
- Demonstrated experience with microwave and/or pulsed power systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to travel up to 10% within the continental U.S.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree.
- Prior experience supporting the ARL program office or another government research organization.
- Extensive experience in electrical and RF engineering, including design, refinement, or adaptation of applications for military use.
