Leidos is seeking a Senior Lead Graphics Artist in Orlando, FL to spearhead the visual development of high-fidelity virtual environments and digital twins for a mission-critical Tactical Operator Maintainer Trainer.In this role, you will lead a team of artists to create immersive virtual worlds where soldiers learn to operate complex hardware and troubleshoot system failures. You will be both a visionary leader and a hands-on contributor, ensuring that every 3D model and interactive environment meets the rigorous technical and instructional standards of the defense industry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and mentor a team of graphic artists, overseeing production timelines, asset quality, and professional growth.
- Design and develop high-fidelity 3D models and environments for virtual training systems using 3D Studio Max, Maya, Creator, Blender and others.
- Utilize Substance Painter to create PBR-compliant (Physically Based Rendering) textures that ensure realistic visual feedback for maintenance tasks.
- Have knowledge in the creating process for joints/bones, skinning, and control setups for virtual training systems.
- Collaborate with Mechanical, Electrical and Logistics engineers, Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), to support visualization of complex technical manuals tasks in an intuitive, 3D view.
- Implement and optimize assets within the Unity, Unreal and other gaming engines and Image Generators, ensuring smooth performance across various hardware configurations.
- Develop visual representations of system failures, enabling soldiers to identify and resolve technical issues within a virtual environment.
- Bridge the gap between art and engineering by utilizing basic programming languages (C+, Python, etc) to script interactive elements and animations.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Digital Arts, Game Design, or a related field with 4+ years of experience or a Master's degree in in Graphic Design, Digital Arts, Game Design, or a related field with 2+ years of experience. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- US Citizenship; Active DoD Secret Clearance or the ability to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance.
- Experience in graphic design or 3D artistry, with significant experience in defense simulation or AAA gaming.
- Expert-level proficiency in 3D Studio Max, Maya, Substance Painter, and Creator.
- Advanced knowledge of Unity (or similar gaming engines) for real-time simulation development.
- Familiarity with basic programming/scripting to facilitate engine-level interaction.
- Understanding of DoD branding, instructional design models like ADDIE or SAM, and formatting for classified environments.
- Clear understanding of CAD generated models in multiple different programs such as CREO and Solid Works.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Active Secret clearance.
- Prior experience developing Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs) or virtual maintenance trainers.
- Strong portfolio showcasing hard-surface modeling and complex virtual environments.

Pay Range:
Pay Range $87,100.00 - $157,450.00
