If you are a software engineering leader ready to take the reins and drive impact, we’ve got an opportunity just for you.

As a Director of Software Engineering at JPMorgan Chase within Connected Commerce Technology, you lead a technical area and drive impact within teams, technologies, and projects across departments. Utilize your in-depth knowledge of software, applications, technical processes, and product management to drive multiple complex projects and initiatives, while serving as a primary decision maker for your teams and be a driver of innovation and solution delivery.

Job responsibilities

  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing engineering team focused on digital identity solutions. Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Conduct performance reviews, provide career development guidance, and recruit top talent in areas like blockchain, cryptography, and identity protocols.
  • Define and execute the technical roadmap for digital identity platforms, emphasizing verifiable credentials issuance, presentation, and verification. Ensure systems are designed for scalability, resilience, and interoperability using standards like OIDC4VC for credential exchange and W3C mDL for mobile-based identity proofs.
  • Oversee the development of advanced identity verification workflows, including biometric integration, KYC/AML compliance, and fraud detection mechanisms. Implement privacy-enhancing technologies such as zero-knowledge proofs to minimize data exposure.
  • Champion the adoption of open standards (e.g., OIDC4VC, W3C DID/VC models, and related protocols) to enable cross-ecosystem compatibility. Stay ahead of emerging standards and contribute to industry working groups or open-source projects.
  • Partner with product managers to translate business requirements into technical specifications. Work closely with security teams to conduct threat modeling, audits, and penetration testing for identity systems. Collaborate with legal and compliance experts to navigate regulations like GDPR, CCPA, and eIDAS.
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources to deliver high-quality features on schedule. Implement agile methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, and Dev Sec Ops practices to accelerate development cycles.
  • Present technical strategies to executive leadership, clients, and partners. Represent the company at conferences, webinars, or standards bodies related to digital identity.
  • Champions the firm’s culture of diversity, opportunity, inclusion, and respect

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Formal training or certification on cybersecurity concepts and 10+ years applied experience. In addition, 5+ years of experience leading technologists to manage, anticipate and solve complex technical items within your domain of expertise.
  • Deep knowledge of verifiable credentials (VCs), decentralized identifiers (DIDs), and identity verification protocols. Hands-on experience with OIDC4VC, W3C standards (including mDL integrations), OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, and related cryptographic primitives (e.g., JWT, JWS, ECDH).
  • Proficiency in languages such as Go, Rust, Java, or Python for backend development. Familiarity with microservices architectures, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Strong understanding of cryptography, secure key management, and threat modeling in identity systems. Experience with compliance frameworks like SOC 2, ISO 27001, or NIST SP 800-63.
  • Demonstrated success in leading distributed teams, with excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Expertise in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Experience with self-sovereign identity (SSI) frameworks, blockchain technologies (e.g., Ethereum, Polygon), or decentralized storage solutions (e.g., IPFS).
  • Contributions to open-source projects in digital identity or participation in standards organizations like W3C, OpenID Foundation, or DIF.
  • Familiarity with mobile app development for identity wallets (iOS/Android) and integration with hardware security modules (HSMs).
  • Knowledge of emerging trends like passkeys, Web Authn, or quantum-resistant cryptography.
  • Prior experience in high-stakes environments, such as financial services, government, or healthcare, where identity verification was used.
