Join J.P. Morgan’s Public Finance team and help shape the future of public sector financing. As a Vice President covering the US Public Power sector in San Francisco, you’ll play a critical role in delivering innovative investment banking solutions to state and local governments, non-profits, and other public entities. You’ll collaborate with senior bankers and cross-functional teams to drive business development, execute deals, and mentor junior talent, all while ensuring regulatory compliance and delivering exceptional client service.
Job responsibilities
- Drive business development activities and deal execution, generating and evaluating financial ideas and options for clients while ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Execute financings, including running and reviewing numbers (new money, refunding, restructuring analysis with DBC and Excel) and reviewing debt profiles, coordinating with internal and external parties.
- Guide junior staff and review client presentations, analyses, and responses to requests for proposals (RFPs) for senior bankers.
- Coordinate internally to maximize the firm’s resources in support of client efforts.
- Participate in client conference calls and meetings.
- Mentor and train junior team members.
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Bachelor’s degree with five to seven years of investment banking experience in public finance.
- Knowledge and understanding of financial markets, interest rate movements, economic indicators, municipal bonds, and deal timelines and processes.
- Experience working with US Public Power clients.
- Previous municipal finance experience in developing financial models to structure bond transactions, performing new money and refunding analyses using DBC, and participating in the execution of senior managed deals.
- Strong communication skills (verbal, written, and active listening).
- Strong quantitative, qualitative, and research skills.
- Solid client service and relationship building skills.
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Previous experience as a municipal issuer, financial advisor, or underwriter.
- Ethical, with integrity.
- Strong work ethic, self-motivated, and confident; ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Detail- and results-oriented, with strong problem solving, organizational, and planning skills.
