Job Summary
As a Credit Underwriter in the Auto Finance Underwriting team, you evaluate applications and make timely, high‑quality credit decisions that align with policy and regulatory standards. You balance speed, volume, and decision quality to support customers and our dealer network. You collaborate closely with relationship managers and partners to strengthen dealer relationships. You help drive strong business outcomes through consistent execution and clear communication.
Job Responsibilities
- Review and analyze automobile credit applications from dealer partners to render sound decisions within credit policy.
- Decide applications quickly and accurately to meet service levels while maintaining high decision quality.
- Structure decisions to optimize risk‑adjusted profitability and support long‑term dealer relationships.
- Communicate decisions and rationales clearly to internal partners and dealer contacts.
- Collaborate with relationship managers to support ongoing business development and dealer engagement.
- Initiate and document follow‑up outreach by phone and written communication as appropriate.
- Meet or exceed targets for profitability, volume, conversion, and other agreed business metrics.
- Adhere to all applicable regulations and internal risk, compliance, and documentation standards.
- Escalate exceptions appropriately and seek guidance on complex or borderline cases.
- Contribute to process improvements that enhance speed, quality, and customer/dealer experience.
Required qualifications, capabilities and skills
- Minimum 1 year of consumer or auto credit underwriting or closely related credit decisioning experience.
- Proficiency interpreting credit bureau data and verifying applicant information to support objective decisions.
- Working knowledge of U.S. consumer lending requirements applicable to auto finance.
- Demonstrated ability to manage a high‑volume workflow while meeting quality and turnaround goals.
- Ability to write clear, concise credit rationales and communicate decisions to cross‑functional partners.
- Strong attention to detail with consistent adherence to policy, procedures, and documentation standards.
- Proficiency with common productivity tools and underwriting platforms.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience reviewing and interpreting credit bureau reports in an indirect auto environment.
- Knowledge of indirect loan and lease programs, bank products, and services.
- Familiarity with dealer management systems and auto finance workflows.
- Knowledge of credit policies, loan documentation, and related legal considerations.
- Experience collaborating with relationship managers to support dealer relationships.
