Position Summary:
The IDAR EASE (Enabling Analytics & System Excellence) Team is focused on developing analytical solutions to improve how we use data and technology to drive decisions. We keep user experience at the center of all we do to reduce barriers to data and insights for Global Development.
The Senior Principal Engineer, Operational Data Enablement, is accountable for understanding and documenting a multi‑system view of operational data flows and data lineage, with a focus on reducing duplicate data capture and minimizing user burden across systems through repetitive data entry across platforms and technological issues that result in poor data quality at the source. This role operates at the intersection of business processes, operational systems, data governance, and reporting, and is responsible for defining and driving a roadmap of data and system improvements that enable trusted, consistent, and reusable operational data given a vast multi-system landscape required to execute Clinical Trial Operations.
This role partners closely with solution owners, business process owners, and team members to identify conflicting or unclear data definitions, non‑authoritative data sources, and breakdowns in data lineage. The Senior Principal Engineer establishes frameworks that enable consistent definitions, connects the dots between process, technology, and data teams to help prioritize and lead the technical actions that drive the greatest progress toward our goals, focusing as far upstream as possible.
Principal Responsibilities:
Data Lineage & Integration Pathways
-
Define and maintain end‑to‑end data lineage across operational systems, including how and when data flows between systems and into downstream reporting and analytics.
-
Identify gaps, redundancies, and inefficiencies in system‑to‑system integrations that contribute to duplicate data entry or inconsistent data.
-
Partner with technology teams to influence integration design decisions that improve data quality and reduce user burden.
Data Quality Enablement
-
Identify systemic drivers of data quality issues and lead efforts to optimize technologies to reduce and avoid such issues over time.
-
Partner with team members, solution owners, and process owners to establish continuous monitoring approaches that incentivize action by users to correct their data in a timely manner
Solution & Domain Advisement:
-
Act as the primary point of contact for operational data context across assigned solution domains.
-
Collaborate and act as key advisor with solution owners to assess potential downstream impacts of system or data changes to other systems, dashboards, and analytics products.
-
Ensure operational data enablement considerations are embedded into solution roadmaps and enhancement planning.
-
Provide oversight to service providers as needed to manage delivery timelines, prioritization, appropriate time periods for delivery, and instruction at a level of detail needed to complete the work.
-
Provides delivery management oversight for related initiatives, including activities related to stakeholder management, change management, project plan creation, work assignments, risk management, and tracking that span cross-functional stakeholders, internal IT partners, and vendor resources.
