Position Overview

JLL is seeking an experienced Construction Manager with 20+ years of specialized expertise in mission-critical facility construction to join our leading Mission Critical practice. This role will oversee the construction execution of complex data center projects, ensuring delivery excellence while maintaining JLL's reputation as the premier global provider of data center real estate services.

Working within JLL's integrated service platform, you will manage construction activities for hyperscale data center developments while coordinating with our capital markets, leasing, and facilities management teams to deliver seamless client experiences. This position offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge digital infrastructure projects while leveraging JLL's global resources and established industry relationships.

Key Responsibilities

Construction Execution and Management Oversee all construction activities for data center projects, managing general contractors, specialty subcontractors, and vendor relationships to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery. Coordinate complex construction sequencing including MEP systems integration, critical equipment installation, and commissioning preparation activities.

Quality Assurance and Risk Management Implement comprehensive quality control programs ensuring construction meets or exceeds industry standards for mission-critical facilities. Manage construction risk through proactive issue identification, mitigation planning, and stakeholder communication. Ensure compliance with safety protocols, building codes, and client-specific requirements throughout construction phases.

Contractor and Vendor Management Lead contractor selection processes and manage performance of general contractors, MEP contractors, and specialty vendors including UPS suppliers, cooling system manufacturers, and commissioning agents. Negotiate change orders, resolve construction disputes, and maintain productive relationships with key industry partners.

Schedule and Cost Control Develop and maintain detailed construction schedules coordinating multiple work streams and critical path activities. Monitor project budgets, track cost variations, and implement cost control measures while maintaining quality standards. Provide regular reporting to clients and internal stakeholders on construction progress and financial performance.

Technical Coordination and Problem-Solving Collaborate with design teams, commissioning agents, and operations personnel to resolve complex technical issues during construction. Coordinate installation of critical systems including switchgear, generators, UPS systems, cooling infrastructure, and building management systems. Ensure proper integration between architectural, structural, and MEP systems.

Client and Stakeholder Communication Serve as primary construction interface with clients, providing regular progress updates, hosting site visits, and managing construction-related communications. Coordinate with JLL's project management and client services teams to ensure integrated service delivery and client satisfaction.

Required Qualifications

Experience Requirements Minimum 20 years of construction management experience with at least 15 years focused specifically on mission-critical facilities including data centers, hospitals, or other critical infrastructure. Demonstrated success managing 15+ data center construction projects. Experience with both traditional construction delivery and modular/prefabricated approaches.

Technical Construction Expertise Deep understanding of mission-critical construction including electrical distribution systems, emergency power generation, precision cooling systems, fire suppression, and building automation. Knowledge of construction methods for high-density computing environments, advanced cooling technologies, and seismic/hardening requirements. Experience with fast-track construction delivery and accelerated project schedules.

Management and Leadership Skills Proven ability to manage large construction teams including general contractors, subcontractors, and specialty vendors across complex project environments. Strong negotiation skills with experience managing construction contracts, change orders, and dispute resolution. Excellent communication abilities with experience presenting to senior executives and client stakeholders.

Industry Knowledge and Relationships Established relationships with leading data center contractors, MEP specialists, and critical equipment suppliers. Understanding of data center industry standards, commissioning requirements, and operational considerations. Knowledge of relevant building codes, safety regulations, and industry best practices for mission-critical construction.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with hyperscale data center construction for major technology companies including cloud service providers and colocation operators. International construction experience with knowledge of diverse regulatory environments and construction practices. Background with sustainable construction practices, LEED certification processes, and renewable energy integration. Familiarity with emerging construction technologies including Building Information Modeling (BIM) and digital construction management platforms.

Technical Competencies

Project Management Tools Proficiency with construction management software including Procore, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, and cost management systems. Experience with BIM coordination tools and digital construction documentation platforms. Familiarity with commissioning management systems and testing documentation requirements.
