Our people at JLL are shaping the future of real estate for a better world by combining world class services, advisory and technology for our clients. We are committed to hiring the best, most talented people and empowering them to thrive, grow meaningful careers and to find a place where they belong. Whether you’ve got deep experience in commercial real estate, skilled trades or technology, or you’re looking to apply your relevant experience to a new industry, join our team as we help shape a brighter way forward.
We are seeking an industry veteran to serve as the Senior Director, Critical Environments, holding ultimate accountability for the strategy, resilience, and operational excellence of our client’s mission-critical portfolio. In this executive-level role, you will lead a large-scale, diverse organization comprised of over 100+ professionals, overseeing five distinct functional verticals: Critical Environment Operations, Lab Planning, Engineering, Operations Command Centers (FORT or NOC), and Operations & Innovation/Technology.
Key Responsibilities
1.
Executive Leadership & Organizational Strategy:
- Leader of Leaders: Manage and mentor a high-performing organization of 100+ staff members through direct supervision of five specialized Directors. You are responsible for fostering a "No Ego" culture of accountability and collaboration across diverse teams.
- Client Partnership: Serve as the primary strategic partner to senior client stakeholders. You must possess the ability to present complex technical and data concepts as clear business strategies to the C-Suite.
- Talent Ecosystem: Define the competency requirements and training standards for the entire critical environments organization , ensuring a deep pipeline of technical talent and "Specialized Response" capabilities.
2. Operational Resilience & 24/7 Command
- Integrated Operations: Oversee the Director of Critical Operations and Senior Director of Engineering & Ops Center to ensure 100% uptime in critical operations.
- Crisis Management: Serve as the ultimate escalation point for major incidents. While your team manages the immediate response, you lead executive communication, mitigation strategy, and systemic Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
- Command Center Oversight: Direct the strategy of the 24/7 Operations Center, ensuring it effectively monitors critical systems to minimize downtime and acts as the "Traffic Controller" for workflow logistics.
3.
Technical Governance & Engineering Excellence:
- Engineering Authority: Through the Labs Engineering Director, oversee comprehensive design reviews for MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) topology, ensuring adherence to client standards.
- Lifecycle & Capital Planning: Partner with leadership to forecast end-of-life infrastructure replacements and lead the Capital Renewal Program to minimize Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
- Standardization: Drive enterprise-wide standards for SOPs and MOPs to ensure consistency across all facilities, moving beyond site-specific logs.
4. Innovation, Data & Future-Readiness
- Technology Roadmap: Oversee the Director of Operations and Innovation to define the vision for "next-level tools" and data-driven platforms.
- Cloud & AI Strategy: Champion the use of cloud architecture (e.g., Google Cloud Platform) and AI opportunities to operationalize data from BMS and IoT sources for predictive maintenance.
- Transformation: Lead transformation engineering initiatives, ensuring the organization breaks free of "fixed thinking" to adopt emerging technologies.
5.
Strategic Planning & Space Management:
- Portfolio Planning: Oversee the Labs Planning Director to manage strategic moves, adds, and changes (MAC) and data integrity efforts.
- Capacity Management: Maintain high-level reporting on all capacity thresholds (Power, Cooling, Space) to support the client's growth and R&D roadmap.
- Resource Optimization: Ensure the alignment of space planning with engineering realities to improve operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
Qualifications
Professional: 20+ years of progressive experience in Critical Environments (Data Centers, Semiconductor, Pharma, or R&D Labs), covering operations, engineering, planning, and innovation.
Leadership: 15+ years of direct people management experience, specifically leading large technical teams (50-100+ staff) and "managing managers" in a multi-site, matrixed environment.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical), Facilities Management, or a related technical field is required. A Master’s degree or MBA is highly preferred.
- Certifications: Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Facility Manager (CFM), or PMP is preferred.
