Primary Function of Position:

The Software Engineer, Agentic AI is a balanced full-stack engineering role

focused on building end-to-end agentic AI systems. This role spans backend

services, agent orchestration, data and retrieval pipelines, and user-facing

applications that make AI-driven decisions transparent, safe, and actionable.

In this role, you will work closely with senior engineers and cross-functional

partners to rapidly prototype new ideas, iterate based on feedback, and help

mature successful concepts into reliable, scalable software.

Roles and Responsibilities:

 Design and implement agentic AI workflows, including multi-step

reasoning, tool usage, retrieval, and structured outputs.

 Build and maintain backend services and APIs that support agent

execution, session management, and workflow orchestration.

 Develop data ingestion and retrieval pipelines to ground agent behavior

in enterprise data and documents.

 Contribute to user-facing applications that present agent outputs clearly,

including streaming responses, evidence, and status.

 Implement role-based access control and persona-aware behaviors across

services and user interfaces.

 Add observability, logging, and evaluation hooks to improve reliability,

debuggability, and quality of agent behavior.

 Collaborate with AI/ML, robotics, product, and design partners to

translate ambiguous concepts into working systems.

 Participate in regular release cycles, bug fixes, and iterative

improvements across the stack.

Minimum Qualifications:

 Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software

Engineering, or a related field.

 3–6 years of professional software engineering experience, including

work in R&D or early-stage product environments.

 Experience delivering balanced full-stack features spanning backend

services, APIs, and user-facing applications.

 Proficiency in at least one backend language/runtime such as Python or

Node.js.

 Working experience with modern web technologies such as

JavaScript/TypeScript and React or similar frameworks.

 Experience integrating AI or data-driven systems into products, including

asynchronous workflows and streaming responses.

 Strong problem-solving skills and comfort working in ambiguous, fast-

moving environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

 Experience building or integrating agentic AI systems, tool-using agents,

or retrieval-augmented generation.

 Familiarity with role-based access control, permissioned systems, or

multi-tenant architectures.

 Experience with data ingestion pipelines and handling multiple content

types such as documents, images, or audio.

 Background in healthcare, robotics, or other complex or regulated

technical domains.

 Experience with cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and production

operations

Due to the nature of our business and the role, please note that Intuitive and/or your customer(s) may require that you show current proof of vaccination against certain diseases including COVID-19. Details can vary by role.

For any Intuitive role subject to export controls, final offers are contingent upon obtaining an approved export license and/or an executed TCP prior to the prospective employee’s
start date, which may or may not be flexible, and within a timeframe that does not unreasonably impede the hiring need. If applicable, candidates will be notified and instructed on any requirements for these purposes.

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, benefits, and equity. It would not be typical for someone to be hired at the top end of range for the role, as actual pay will be determined based on several factors, including experience, skills, and qualifications. The target compensation ranges are listed.
