Primary Objective

This position supports category management in the promoting, and implementation of our sourcing strategies and projects that drive excellence in supplier quality, delivery, and cost for assigned commodities and projects. Direct responsibility for cost down projects, supplier price negotiations, supplier selection, supplier performance management, and problem resolution.

Major Areas of Accountability

  • Support category managers in the development, promotion, and execution of global category strategies with defined plans for cost savings, service level agreements and risk assessment.
  • Partners with project management in the pre-sale phase of projects to proactively prepare sourcing plans that yield the most effective cost, schedule, and quality solution for purchased materials and purchased services.
  • Lead sourcing projects and negotiation with suppliers to improve cost, service, quality, and inventory.
  • Provide rigorous analysis of spend data, major commodity price fluctuations, and market trends to prioritize and launch sourcing initiatives within designated spend/categories.
  • Analyze current spend and evaluate current suppliers. Consolidate spend across our supply base to create leverage, analyze purchasing trends and develop sourcing alternatives. Identify new high potential suppliers on global basis.
  • Monitors the schedule for all purchased parts and takes action on exception messages by expediting, delaying or canceling orders. Tracks project material cost savings and develop target costing models for purchased parts in conjunction with PEs and Finance
  • Validates technical specifications and informs design engineering of new emerging technologies and alternative processes and materials to develop the most cost effective and high-quality solution.
  • Deliver year-over-year net cost reductions for commodities and program that fall within assigned responsibility.
  • Develop and use a competitive bid process to ensure we have the best possible pricing.
  • Responsible for strategic supplier relationships and performance. Both lead and support in business reviews with top suppliers and regularly re-evaluate supplier ranking.
  • Support new supplier qualification, new product development activities, and customer projects as required, to include supplier visits and audits.
  • Negotiates complex contracts with suppliers by developing negotiation strategies based upon the proposal analysis including price / cost factors, terms and conditions, and technical issues.
  • Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies and recovery plans for sole sourced suppliers, EOL material, and supplier capacity issues, to prevent or mitigate interruptions in supply.
  • Advises internal customers on purchasing processes; provides information on products and suppliers; anticipates and mitigates problems; and, resolves supplier and purchased product related issues.
  • Promote continuous improvement of productivity and efficiency of sourcing processes throughout the organization as assigned.
  • Provide timely, accurate, and complete reports on supply chain conditions and project.
