Job Description:

Overview: The Associate Applications & Mechanical Design Engineer will hold responsibilities within the two associated teams. They will review customer applications with the goal of determining the most appropriate solution and present this through accurate and detailed quotations. They will also produce cost effective and technically sound designs in-line with Loma design standards. Furthermore, it will be their responsibility to assist with and improve upon communication of clear information from quotation through to manufacturing.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare quotations for customized equipment based on customer requirements.
  • Facilitate effective communication with internal and external customers.
  • Address specialized customer inquiries including performance estimation, product testing, and redesign evaluation.
  • Design inspection equipment (Metal Detector, Checkweigher & X-ray’s) in line with current Loma System standards to meet application requirements and fulfil orders within the expected lead times.
  • Create detailed part and assembly drawings in-line with existing design standards to accurately communicate specifications to Procurement and Suppliers.
  • Create Bill of Materials within ERP software.
  • Maintain existing Engineering systems related to drawing numbers, part numbers, drawing files, etc.
  • Create individual component detail drawings for suppliers, and work with purchasing to ensure parts meet design specifications.
  • Support internal customers such as sales, procurement, production, and service when appropriate.
  • Participate in product development projects when appropriate.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues in other company locations, particularly the UK parent company.
  • Pro-actively participate in ITW’s ‘toolbox’ initiatives.
  • In addition to the responsibilities listed above, the position holder may need to complete other tasks assigned by their manager related to their position and duties.

Requirements:

Essential:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or similar field required.
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant design experience or a previous Engineering Internship required in a similar role.
  • Good knowledge and experience in the following areas:Mechanical assembly & working practices as well as component manufacturing methods.
  • Mechanical design – sheet metal, framing in box section, conveyor belting, geared motor selection etc.
  • Understanding/ appreciation of electrical system designs.
  • Project Management.
  • Report writing.
  • Computer literacy – word processing, spreadsheets, databases, CAD (Solid Works).
  • Demonstrated excellent time management, prioritization abilities and communication skills.
  • Hands on approach, with good interpersonal skills.
  • Detail oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to collaborate and work within a team environment.
  • Ability to react quickly to changing priorities.

Desirable:

  • Experience in the design of conveyors and material-handling equipment for the Food and Packaging industries.
  • Pneumatic design – the use of localise air filtration systems with the purpose of controlling pneumatic cylinders and other reject operations.
  • Electrical design - understand control panel components such as relays, circuit breakers, main isolators, transformers; understand the principals of using various electrical components from power source to the field device; able to read and interpret electrical drawings; understand the difference between single and 3 phase and 230/115/24-volt controls and various types of analogue signals.

Compensation Information:

Salary Range for this role is $74,800 to $112,200 depending on experience
