On The Hashi Corp Engineering Team, We Build The Infrastructure Cloud Which Allows Enterprises To Take a Unified Approach To Infrastructure And Security Lifecycle Management

Infrastructure Lifecycle Management: Build / Deploy / Manage

Terraform allows you to use infrastructure as code to provision and manage any infrastructure across your organization.
Packer standardizes image workflows across cloud providers, allowing teams to build, govern and manage any image for any cloud.
Waypoint makes infrastructure easily accessible at scale, enabling platform teams to deliver golden patterns and workflows with an internal developer platform.
Nomad brings modern application scheduling to any type of software, allowing you to manage containers, binaries and VMs efficiently in the cloud, on-premises and across edge environments.

Security Lifecycle Management: Protect / Inspect / Connect

Vault provides organizations with identity-based security to automatically authenticate and authorize access to secrets and other sensitive data.
Boundary standardizes secure remote access across dynamic environments, allowing organizations to connect users and manage access with identity-based security controls.
Consul standardizes service networking, allowing you to discover and securely connect any service across any runtime with identity-based service networking.

We deliver the Infrastructure Cloud through an enterprise-grade unified SaaS platform, HCP, as well as to enterprises through self-managed/on-premises options.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities)

Lead the design, prototyping, and implementation of complex features, components, and tools that advance Packer's core capabilities and integrations.
Architect scalable and maintainable solutions for image workflows across heterogeneous cloud and on-premises environments, working in close partnership with product, security, and SRE teams.
Champion technical quality: Set and uphold best practices for code quality, architecture, testing, and reliability across the team.
Provide technical leadership and mentorship-coach engineers at all levels, conduct technical reviews, and drive key design and architectural decisions.
Drive cross-functional collaboration, engaging with Product, UX, SRE, Documentation, and Support teams to ensure a cohesive and intuitive user experience for both open source and enterprise customers.
Take ownership of critical production issues, incident response, and architectural improvements, helping the team anticipate obstacles and improve engineering processes.
Represent the team in engineering forums and cross-product initiatives, advocating for improvements in platform integration, security, and developer experience.
Contribute to the technical strategy and roadmap for Packer within IBM's Infrastructure Cloud vision, identifying opportunities to innovate and differentiating IBM in the marketplace.
Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning, psychological safety, and technical excellence.

Required technical and professional expertise

Minimum 7+ years of professional software engineering experience with progressive technical leadership responsibilities.
Proficiency in Go and Python with substantial, production-grade experience in both languages.
Extensive experience designing and building distributed systems and cloud-native infrastructure solutions, with strong focus on resiliency, security, and scalability.
Deep understanding of Infrastructure as Code (IaC), configuration management, and immutable infrastructure concepts.
Demonstrated experience architecting and delivering production-grade features in collaborative, cross-functional engineering teams.
Proficiency in DevOps best practices, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing strategies.
Experience debugging and optimizing complex distributed systems and cloud APIs.
Hashi Corp product experience required, especially with Packer; strong familiarity with Terraform, Nomad, or Vault is a plus.
Proven record of mentorship, code reviews, and leading technical projects to successful completion.
Strong communicator who builds trust, aligns stakeholders, and fosters an inclusive, high-performing team environment.

Preferred technical and professional experience

Prior experience leading or contributing to large open source projects.
Expertise in multi-cloud infrastructure, automation, and containerization frameworks.
Experience developing and scaling enterprise SaaS platforms.
Contributions to the Hashi Corp ecosystem at the community or core contributor level.
Experience working with external partners and customers to deliver platform integrations and SDKs.
Emerging or established presence as a speaker, author, or thought leader in the cloud infrastructure domain.
