The Lead Engineering Specialist serves as a process leader and change agent, driving continuous improvement and operational excellence across design engineering operations. This role focuses on capturing and organizing engineering knowledge, modernizing processes, applying operational rigor, supporting compliance functions, enabling digital transformation, and assisting with project administration to enhance efficiency, quality, and innovation.

YOU MUST HAVE

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as science, technology, engineering, mathematics
  • Professional Experience: More than 7 years of lead-level experience in an engineering environment within a regulated industry.
  • Digital Proficiency: Advanced skill level in Microsoft Share Point (administration and architecture) and process mapping tools.
  • Compliance Knowledge: Proven experience working within ITAR/EAR regulations and AS9100 or ISO 9001 quality management systems.
  • Configuration Management: Practical experience with Engineering Change Orders (ECO), drawing release workflows, and using PLM/PDM software (e.g., Teamcenter).
  • Technical Communication: Demonstrated ability to document engineering workflows, create SOPs, and translate "tribal knowledge" into formal procedures.
  • Project coordination or project management experience. Experience tracking project metrics and managing digital artifact storage for engineering projects.

  • Continuous Improvement Certification: Lean Six Sigma Black Belt or Green Belt with a proven track record of reducing cycle times in engineering operations.
  • Specialized Export Knowledge: Deep familiarity with ECCN 9e610 and experience acting as an Authorized Owner (AO) for technical data export licenses.
  • Audit Leadership: Experience leading or significantly supporting external audits (DNV, customer audits, or AS9100) and managing the closure of Corrective Action Requests (CARs).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Engineering Process Capture, Organize, and Educate

  • Capture and document existing engineering processes, workflows, methods, and decision logic.
  • Organize engineering operational documentation into searchable, intuitive, standardized digital formats.
  • Develop digital process maps, visual workflows, and structured knowledge repositories.
  • Train engineering staff on updated processes, digital tools, and best practices.
  • Transition high‑impact legacy tribal knowledge, engineering processes, and playbooks into structured digital assets, leveraging AI for classification and retrieval.
  • Identify process gaps and partner with SMEs to modernize outdated procedures.
  • Maintain and continuously improve engineering process documentation libraries.

Configuration Control and Release

  • As a process champion ensure drawing configuration control and release workflows operate smoothly across engineering teams using established processes
  • Coordinate and guide design engineers, project leads, and all approval stakeholders to resolve configuration or release issues quickly and effectively.
  • Ensure engineering drawing release activities comply with customer‑specific drawing pre‑approval requirements.
  • Develop digital process maps and visual workflows to improve efficiency and quality

Export Compliance and Licensing

  • Assist with export classification by gathering data and preparing documentation.
  • Support monitoring of technical data transfers through approved export systems.
  • Support site Export Authorized Owner (AO) on 9e610 and ITAR technical data export licenses.
  • Provide procedural guidance to engineering teams.
  • Develop digital process maps and visual workflows to improve efficiency

Engineering Audit Support

  • Assist in gathering engineering documentation for DNV, AS9100, internal, and customer audits.
  • Help coordinate audit readiness activities, track audit findings, and support corrective action closure.
  • Develop digital process maps of site Quality Management System and maintain digital engineering reference materials to improve future audit efficiency

Project Administration and Monitoring

  • Maintain and administer Share Point project sites for digital artifact storage
  • Automate the capture and reporting of engineering project performance metrics leveraging new digital tools and AI technology
  • Develop digital process maps and automate internal/external part requisition ordering and tracking for new product development initiatives.
