Hearst Technology Services is seeking an individual who will help our organization achieve its technology vision. We are hiring a Director, Data Management & Engineering who will work with teams across a multi-faceted organization. As a Director, you will be responsible for providing direction to Data Engineers as well as performing hands on work in the full development life cycle of complex data projects requiring integrations and transformations including analysis, design, development, and support of complex data pipelines in cloud environments.

Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with data storage/architecture: data warehouses, data lakes, data integration platforms, ETL/ELT pipelines

  • Experience with data tools & platforms: SQL/NoSQL databases, cloud data platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), data visualization/BI tools.

  • Experience with data management tools & platforms (e.g. Informatica, Collibra, Reltio)

  • Seasoned in the development and implementation of data management strategies and platforms.

  • A proven record of overseeing teams across a variety of data technology solutions to deliver data programs.

  • Experience in leading data platform teams and implementations of data management tools that profile, classify, filter, and “clean” data to locate and correct code problems.

  • Expertise in leading initiatives concerning data analyses, data collection systems and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and quality.

  • Experience in leading data projects in a multi-cloud environment.

  • An effective communicator, capable of perceiving how best to reach different audiences and executing communication strategies based on that understanding.

  • Experience with regulatory data frameworks, such as GDPR, CCPA, etc.

  • Able to work effectively in an environment that contains complex information.

  • Able to consistently achieve results, even under difficult circumstances.

  • Adept at planning and prioritizing work to meet commitments using agile project management within complex work environments.

  • Adept at building partnerships and working reciprocally with others to meet shared vision and goals.

  • Adept at learning quickly, applying insights from past efforts to new situations.

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, or related discipline
  • 8-12 years of experience in data
  • 7+ years directing multiple teams in providing technical solutions to meet business requirements.

In accordance with applicable law, Hearst is required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role if hired in New York City. The reasonable estimate, if hired in New York City, is $195,000 - $225,000. Please note this information is specific to those hired in New York City. If this role is open to candidates outside of New York City, the salary range would be aligned to that specific location. A final decision on the successful candidate’s starting salary will be based on a number of permissible, non-discriminatory factors, including but not limited to skills and experience, training, certifications, and education. What You’ll Do:

  • Provide directions to a team of engineers in the building and maintenance of data platforms, master data management systems, reference data management, metadata management frameworks, and data quality projects.

  • Implement technologies, processes, and procedures in support of the Data Management program workstreams to support strategies to increase data transparency throughout the enterprise while protecting against the misuse of data.

  • Provide hands on direction for the implementation of Data Services including data quality, metadata management, master data management, and data platforms.

  • Provide directions to a team of data engineers and specialists in building integrations and transformations working collaboratively with business data teams.

  • Ensure that data technology stack implementations meet strict security, privacy, and quality assurance requirements.

  • Collaborate with the VP of Data Services in the development of strategies for the management of data quality, metadata management, master data management, and data platforms and direct the implementation of the resulting technical stack.

  • Drive the development of corporate data platform that enables Analytics, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to gain additional insights.
