About the Job
Google's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. Our products need to handle information at massive scale, and extend well beyond web search. We're looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas from all areas, including information retrieval, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking and data storage, security, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, UI design and mobile; the list goes on and is growing every day. As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward.
Google Labs is an incubation area where we test and launch early-stage ideas. The Generative Media team within Labs drives innovation with a mission to make creativity radically more accessible, useful, and playful. We are the team behind some of Google's earliest and most exciting AI technologies, and we are now scaling Google Flow a breakthrough product that allows video creators to generate high-quality content for film, entertainment, and professional use cases using generative AI.
Labs is a group focused on incubating early-stage efforts in support of Google’s mission to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful. Our team exists to help discover and create new ways to advance our core products through exploration and the application of new technologies. We work to build new solutions that have the potential to transform how users interact with Google. Our goal is to drive innovation by developing new Google products and capabilities that deliver significant impact over longer timeframes.

-
Contribute to and adapt technical documentation, ensuring runbooks and API guides remain accurate based on product updates and user feedback.
-
Triage and resolve system issues by analyzing impacts on hardware, network, or service operations to ensure high availability for mobile and enterprise users.
-
Implement solutions in specialized ML areas, utilizing infrastructure to optimize data processing pipelines for serving generative video models.
Minimum Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
-
2 years of experience in software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Java, Kotlin, C++, or Python), or 1 year with an advanced degree.
-
1 year of experience with speech/audio/video (e.g., generative media or voice technology), reinforcement learning, ML infrastructure, or related ML fields.
-
1 year of experience with ML infrastructure (e.g., model deployment, debugging) or integrating backend services with AI models.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.
-
2 years of experience with data structures and algorithms, with a focus on writing performant, production-grade code for distributed systems.
-
Experience developing accessible technologies or tools that lower the barrier to entry for digital creativity.
-
Experience with cloud-native storage systems (e.g., SQL or NoSQL databases), RPC frameworks, and building services that scale to support high user traffic.
-
Experience navigating ambiguity in a changing environment, such as a startup or 0 to 1 product launch context.
