At Google Deep Mind, we are a pioneering AI lab with world-class interdisciplinary teams focused on advancing AI development to solve complex global challenges and accelerate high-quality product innovation for billions of users. We use our technologies for widespread public benefit and scientific discovery, ensuring safety and ethics are always our highest priority.
We are pushing the boundaries across multiple domains. Our global teams offer diverse learning opportunities and varied career pathways for those driven to achieve exceptional results through collective effort.
The Role
The Strategy & Operations team is responsible for Google Deep Mind’s hybrid physical and information security operations. The team keeps ahead of emerging threats to GDM by strategically evaluating, prioritising and implementing new initiatives to mitigate complex risks.
You will be the first US-based member of the team and will lead on a growing range of projects across the Americas and APAC, as well as deputising for the team-lead. This is a great opportunity to shape and influence both the role and the direction of the team. You will need to be comfortable working autonomously, with excellent relationship-building skills and a strong security / risk-management background.
Key responsibilities:
-
Lead the strategic evaluation, prioritisation and implementation of new physical and information security initiatives and programs to mitigate emerging risks to GDM. Key areas of focus will be robotics and science.
-
Proactively identify and drive opportunities to mitigate risks to GDM, using creative techniques and championing the adoption of AI tools to enhance security and operational efficiency while minimizing impact on GDM's critical research.
-
Build excellent relationships with Google physical and information security teams and work with them collaboratively to meet GDM security requirements.
-
Build relationships with a wide-range of teams across GDM and Google, without whom we cannot deliver effective security. This includes comms, workplace, events, people & culture, legal, infosec, and many more.
-
Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leaders across GDM and Google, providing expert guidance on complex security and risk management issues. Your ability to influence and align stakeholders with competing objectives will be critical to your success.
-
Manage high-priority security incidents affecting GDM people, operations, and information, in close partnership with Security & Privacy and Google.
-
Partner with teams across GDM and Google to proactively manage system vulnerabilities, establish effective new security controls, and reduce associated risks.
-
Build and manage relationships with public sector and industry partners to share information and support GDM in mitigating risks.
-
Seek opportunities to share your expertise with colleagues and support the development of junior team-members.
-
Travel regularly throughout the Americas (and sometimes EMEA) to collaborate with partner teams and build an understanding of GDM footprint and security requirements.
About You
In order to set you up for success as a Strategy & Operations Senior Manager at Google Deep Mind, we look for the following skills and experience:

10+ years of experience in security and risk management, with a proven track record of leading complex, cross-functional security programs. A minimum of 5 years in a leadership role is required.
-
Demonstrable track-record of building strong working relationships that deliver tangible outcomes to mitigate risks.
-
A strategic problem-solver who can thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment. You have a demonstrated ability to develop innovative solutions to complex security challenges, and you are a passionate advocate for security as a business enabler.
-
Ability to operate autonomously and engage effectively with a broad spectrum of stakeholders - including those with divergent viewpoints - doing so diplomatically and with self-assurance.
-
Excellent program-management skills with experience of delivering complex projects at scale.
-
Excellent verbal and written communication. Ability to brief complex concepts to senior leaders with clarity and conciseness.
-
Ability and curiosity to use AI tools practically and effectively in your work, with a recognition and awareness of AI’s responsible use, risks, and limitations.
In addition, the following would be an advantage:
