Engineering at Go Cardless

The technical challenges of building Go Cardless span from simplifying building banking schemes to optimising the time to render the dashboard.

You will enjoy being a software engineer at Go Cardless if:

Our engineers contribute to the engineering culture within and outside of Go Cardless: they contribute to Open Source Software projects (see our Github), and share learnings in post-mortems, conferences and on our blog.

Our technologies: We endeavour to build simple, reliable systems and we believe in using the best technologies for each task. Technologies we use across Go Cardless include: Ruby on Rails, Golang, Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Postgres, Big Query, Kubernetes, Elasticsearch, Prometheus, Google Cloud (GCP).

About Payer Proposition

We are a small, mighty and growing team that is responsible for developing Go Cardless’ payer proposition, where we want to build and generate value from payer networks.

Go Cardless is used by tens of millions of payers each year, but so far we have done little to engage and build a relationship with them. Most still use our services without knowing.

We want Go Cardless to become the easiest, and most rewarding way for payers to pay. In turn we want to use the relationship we build with our payers to enhance our service for our merchants. This means you’ll be exploring areas as varied as whether we can improve our paying experience, to whether we should offer rewards and incentives for paying with Go Cardless.

This is a greenfield area for Go Cardless, and will involve a high level of ambiguity, experimentation and cross-functional collaboration as we go on this journey to make Go Cardless the easiest and most preferred way to pay.

What excites you

  • You are passionateabout building and improving products by experimenting, prototyping, and applying an iterative and data-driven approach to validate ideas and learn.

  • You are comfortablewith ambiguity. This is a greenfield area for Go Cardless and you will be joining us in the early stages of our journey!

  • You are excited by the idea of solving problems and building products for our payers.

  • You thrive in a cross functional and collaborative environment and believe the best products are built through collaboration.

  • You are someone who embodies leadership, personal accountability and ownership, eagerly taking on problems and solving them with creativity and dedication.

  • You have experience building web products and services, including experience working with front-end technologies (Typescript/JavaScript/React) and you have some experience with Ruby on the back-end.

  • You adapt to new technologies and processes quickly.

  • You have a customer and product centric mindset, and are excited to deliver features to transform the payer experience.

  • You are data-driven and analytical.

  • You are enthusiastic about working in a strong culture of rapid experimentation, testing and peer review - in search of building value to payers, merchants and to GC.

  • You effectively collaborate with other engineering teams and business stakeholders.

  • You are a role model for the team, sharing your knowledge and experience.

  • You have a proven track record in mentoring and supporting other engineers.

  • You take the lead in pushing projects forward and raising the whole team up.

  • You are working at thecompetencies levels expected of a Senior Engineer.

Base salary range: £101,600 - £152,400

Base salary ranges are based on role, job level, location, and market data. Please note that whilst we strive to offer competitive compensation, our approach is to pay between the minimum and the mid-point of the pay range until performance can be assessed in role. Offers will take into account level of experience, interview assessment, budgets and parity between you and fellow employees at Go Cardless doing similar work.
