Project Title:

Cloud Data Catalyst: Architecting High-Volume ETL & AWS Big Data Solutions

Project Objective:

This project offers a deep dive into Cloud Data Engineering, where students move beyond theory to build and optimize real-world data pipelines. Participants will work with a modern tech stack—AWS, Py Spark, and Redshift—to design ETL frameworks, perform data modeling, and solve complex performance tuning issues for high-volume datasets. It is a comprehensive end-to-end experience in building the backbone of modern business intelligence.

Project Description:

This project aims to modernize and optimize the Cloud Data Warehouse (CDW) architecture by building scalable data pipelines and improving system performance.

The intern will work within a Big Data environment to translate business requirements into technical ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) solutions, ensuring high-speed data processing and reliable storage.

The solution will include:

• Scalable ETL Frameworks: Design and development of data pipelines using Py Spark, Python, and AWS EMR

• Advanced Data Modeling: Creation of logical and physical schemas (ERDs) and documentation for Redshift/Postgres cloud databases

• Performance Optimization: Monitoring and tuning of complex SQL queries and database transactions to handle high-volume datasets

-Technical Documentation: Comprehensive mapping of data flows and problem-solving logs to ensure system sustainability

Project Outcome:

Intern:

• Master High-Demand Tech: Gain hands-on experience with industry-leading Big Data tools, including AWS (EMR/Redshift), PySpark, and Python

• End-to-End Data Engineering: Learn the full lifecycle of data warehousing, from initial schema design and modeling to building and deploying complex ETL frameworks.

• Professional Problem-Solving: Develop critical skills in performance tuning, technical documentation, and translating complex business needs into technical solutions.

Company:

• Optimized Data Infrastructure: Improve the efficiency and scalability of the Cloud Data Warehouse through modernized ETL pipelines and optimized schemas

• Enhanced System Performance: Reduce processing times and resource utilization by identifying and resolving bottlenecks in high-volume datasets

• Operational Sustainability: Strengthen the technical foundation with comprehensive data flow mapping and documentation, making future system maintenance and audits more efficient

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science/Computer Engineering/Information Technology or related field through an accredited degree program during the time of internship

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior related internship or co-op experience

• Demonstrated prior leadership experience in the workplace, school projects, competitions and etc

• Project management skills, i.e., the ability to innovate and execute solutions that matter; the ability to navigate ambiguity

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Strong planning & organizational skills

• Familiarity with or academic exposure to AWS Services, Big Data concepts, Py Spark, Python, and Cloud DB Redshift

• Data Warehousing Concepts: Foundational knowledge of data warehouse architecture, trends, and design approaches, including Dimensional Modeling and ERD design

• Documentation and Flow Mapping: Strong conceptual understanding with solid technical documentation skills, particularly the ability to document data flows within business processes

This application is for students undertaking a 20-24 week credit-bearing internship from June 2026 onwards.
