Job Description
The Training Coordinator at Bedford GPS is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing technical and non‑technical training for hourly employees, team leaders, and salaried staff to support safe, efficient, and standardized operations. The role partners closely with Industrial Engineering, GMS, HR/LR, Production, Maintenance, and Safety to ensure the workforce has the skills needed to meet quality, cost, and delivery objectives in a UAW‑represented manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities

Lead development, maintenance, and execution of the site training plan, including new‑hire, job‑certification, upskilling, and launch‑related training.

Coordinate and execute training in alignment with GM’s Launch Training Plan and training process tools (e.g., TTRP, eSAP).
-
Build, maintain, and publish a comprehensive training schedule tied to program milestones, model changes, and major process changes.
-
Coordinate training logistics: classrooms, on‑the‑job training locations, trainers, materials, equipment, PPE, and any special accommodations.
-
Review training content and costs with OEMs, vendors, and third‑party training providers; align scope and deliverables with plant needs and budget.

Initiate and manage purchase requests and POs in eSAP, monitor spending to budget, and reconcile training invoices in partnership with Finance.
-
Maintain accurate training records and job‑qualification matrices (including cross‑training and re‑certification) in accordance with GM and contractual requirements.

Partner with Industrial Engineering and GMS to ensure training supports standard work, ergonomics, throughput improvements, and continuous improvement activities.

Collaborate with HR/LR to ensure training content and delivery align with national and local agreements, plant policies, and joint training initiatives.

Support safety, quality, and regulatory training (e.g., safety orientation, LOTO awareness, quality standards, environmental requirements) in partnership with EHS and Quality.

Develop and execute a communications plan to keep leaders, group leaders, union reps, and employees informed of upcoming classes and mandatory training requirements.

Track and report training KPIs (e.g., % certified to job, on‑time completion for required training, launch readiness, re‑certification compliance) to plant leadership.

Coach and support trainers, team leaders, and subject‑matter experts on effective adult‑learning practices and consistent delivery of standardized content.

Identify skills gaps using input from operations, quality data, IE studies, and grievance/discipline trends; recommend and implement targeted training interventions.

Coordinate with other GM sites and corporate training functions to leverage best practices, standard curricula, and GM‑wide training tools.

Ensure all training activities uphold GM’s commitments to safety, inclusion, and respect, and support a culture where employees feel valued and supported.
Required Qualifications
-
2+ years of experience supervising or leading in a manufacturing environment, or equivalent combination of manufacturing and training experience.

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast‑paced production environment.
-
Proven cross‑functional collaboration experience (e.g., working effectively with multiple departments, HR, IE, Engineering, Production, Maintenance, Safety).
-
Strong organization, follow‑through, and attention to detail; able to independently drive tasks to closure.
-
Experience with GM training tools and processes or similar systems (e.g., TTRP, eSAP, LMS, job‑certification matrices).
-
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and comfortable working with data to build schedules, reports, and dashboards.
-
Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to effectively interact with hourly employees, union representatives, salaried staff, and leadership.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Experience in a high‑volume automotive or component manufacturing environment.
-
Familiarity with GMS, lean manufacturing, and standard work concepts.
-
Prior experience coordinating training in a unionized environment (UAW or similar), including working with joint training programs.
-
Experience supporting launch or major program changes (new product, new equipment, or process changes) from a training perspective.
-
Formal training in Instructional Design or Training & Development.

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Industrial/Manufacturing, HR, Education, or related field (or equivalent experience).
