In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and in accordance with guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), we have implemented a number of safety precautions at all of our locations to protect our employees. Position Overview: Within General Mills, our manufacturing facilities are committed to achieving zero human and food safety incidents and it is every employee’s responsibility to fully support this vision. Machinist Technicians are hired as members of a manufacturing team. They machine parts to specifications, calculating dimensions and tolerances, using various tools and instruments. The General Mills-Wellston plant operates 24 hours per day 7 days per week. Changes in volume and production requirements can result in changes in work schedule and additional overtime. Machinist Technicians must be willing to work any shift including nights and weekends. Alternative schedules are available. A Machinist Technician can earn between $23.10 and $27.10 per hour with pay for skills. General Mills offers a shift differential payment for those working off-shift. We offer a Pay for Skills program which can lead to higher salaries. Main Responsibilities: Should have working knowledge using metal lathe, milling machine, drill press, hydraulic press, metal break and metal shear, plasma cutting, metal forming, welders, acetylene torches, blanchard grinding and metal cutting saws Must be willing and able to pass forklift training Should have good problem-solving abilities and able to work without close supervision Good communication skills, ability to communicate with parts inventory team Excellent attendance is critical Must be able to work from CAD drawings Follow all company safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment Install, maintain, repair, and replace industrial processing and packaging machinery, work tools and equipment Provide technical support and plant leadership for equipment troubleshooting and equipment modifications Perform both uptime and down time preventative maintenance in adherence to the master PM schedule Perform corrective maintenance work orders Participate in Continuous Improvement initiatives, in order to increase platform performance Assists in training new employees as needed Attend meetings and trainings as required Perform additional related tasks as assigned Minimum Qualifications: Must be 18 years of age or older Must have the ongoing right to work in the U.S. without sponsorship High School Diploma or GED 4 years of experience in industrial maintenance or equivalent education in machining and/or fabricating Experience in computer skills, Maximo, Microsoft Office Effective written and oral communication skills Proficiency in basic computer skills Must be able to lift 50 pounds as required by the position Willing and able to perform physical tasks for extended periods of time, including standing, walking, climbing, bending, pulling, and twisting over surfaces Ability to climb and/or work at heights while utilizing stairs, ladders, personnel lifts, or platforms Willing and able to work any shift schedule, including nights and weekends Ability to wear protective clothing and equipment such as safety shoes, face masks, safety glasses, hearing protection, a hard hat, a hair/beard net and gloves when required Willing and able to adhere to all grooming requirements necessary for a food manufacturing environment Willing to work as team Ability to work in hot, cold, noisy, dusty, wet environmental working conditions Ability to work with allergens that might be present in a food environment Willing to work around industrial high-speed moving machinery Ability to work in confined space such as bins, silos, or tanks Ability to work at a tobacco-free site, except for designated areas Must be able to pass assessment by machining parts from provided drawings to show qualifications Successful completion of hiring assessments, including background check, physical and drug screening. Preferred Qualifications: 4-year minimum machine/fabricating experience Continuing education in maintenance/technical skills Computer Maintenance Management Systems experience Demonstrated leadership ability COMPANY OVERVIEW We exist to make food the world loves.
