Reliability Specialist, Blue Buffalo

GENERAL DESCRIPTION – PURPOSE OF ROLE: The Reliability Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing and sustaining reliability plans and programs to reduce total equipment downtime and improve overall process reliability. This role will be tasked with successfully applying short- and long-term strategies for equipment performance improvement ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Ensures compliance with all Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures; executes projects to continuously improve the plant’s safety environment and processes. Participate with operations, maintenance, engineering and others in developing and implementing work process improvement activities. Develop, implement, improve and manage new and existing equipment predictive and preventive maintenance programs. Lead RCFE (Root Cause Failure Elimination) process and plant program to identify root cause and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Analyze downtime to identify chronic/sporadic failures and lead reliability improvement projects. Troubleshoot chronic issues and develop action plans to minimize impact on equipment availability. Develop, implement and sustain reliability best practices to reduce unscheduled maintenance downtime and costs. Assist in development and utilization of key reliability metrics to consistently measure performance. Preventative Maintenance Optimization: review and critique outage and PM execution to identify obstacles and recommend improvements. Assist with long-range planning for facility and equipment needs, including capital and major repairs, with maintenance managers. Participate in the review and management of the capital budget for facility. Make regular rounds through the assigned area to identify early signs of problems and address them. Build and maintain positive working relationships with employees at all levels, technician to plant manager. Document maintenance and management of machinery and software in CMMS. Develop processes and systems to ensure continued improvement in all reliability programs. Drive communication and training for reliability programs and systems throughout the organization. QUALIFICATIONS: Must understand lubrication, RCFE, parts inventory, planning and scheduling, preventative maintenance, and condition-based maintenance best practices. Business presence, ability to manage by influencing others, technical presence, computer skills, and strong project management. HS Diploma or GED PREFERRED SKILLS, COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE: 5+ years of engineering and maintenance experience preferred. Will consider a degreed engineer with 2-3 years' experience with demonstrated leadership, RCM, planning and scheduling best practices. Proven skills in driving a reliability focused culture change (leading projects, mentoring technicians, etc.). Strong experience in Reliability Engineering, root cause and failure analyses (FMEA). Proven experience identifying machinery problems, resolving them, and generating substantial return. Experience as Six Sigma Black-belt or Continuous Improvement/LEAN leader preferred. Strong communication, leadership, relationship building, and group facilitation skills. Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Electrical or Mechanical preferred COMPANY OVERVIEW
