Packaging Technicians are responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of various processing and packaging equipment throughout the facility. Starting Rate: $23.12 per hour with job class increases up to $25.14 per hour Shift Differential: Additional $.34 per hour for 2nd shift and $.42 per hour for 3rd shift Shift Schedules: 2nd shift: 3 pm to 11 pm OR 3rd shift: 11 pm to 7 am The General Mills-Kansas City plant operates 24 hours per day 7 days per week. Changes in volume and production requirements can result in changes in work schedule and additional overtime. Packaging Technicians must be willing to work any shift including nights and weekends. Main Responsibilities In this role, you will: Follow all safety guidelines in the department including proper use of PPE and lockout procedures The Packaging Technician must be able to maintain, troubleshoot, repair and operate packing equipment Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of operating all packaging lines including starting, stopping, loading paper, and changing film rolls Performs necessary flour sample analysis as required by plant/corporate policy Perform preventive and reactive maintenance activities within capabilities on packing department equipment and assist maintenance as needed with higher level tasks. Write and enter work orders Performs all necessary quality checks of the products produced in the Packaging department including HACCP checks, seal tests, weight tests, code dating, metal detector, check-weigher, in-line magnets and code dater checks Maintains all written documentation for these checks Maintains equipment and process records as required Conduct sanitation tasks according to Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS) and as part of daily operations Feed in or blend any off-grade product within the specifications determined by QRO Interface with the warehouse department for inventory, shipping, hold orders, receiving and other functions as directed Collaborate and interface with the flour planner on development of production schedule to ensure the maximum utilization of resources Maintains the processing-related areas in an organized and sanitary manner within FDA GMP guidelines; performs routine cleaning activities of all processing areas Performs product changeover cleanout procedures to ensure correct product quality when changing from one product to another; may include entering equipment to ensure the correct level of cleaning Performs other tasks and assists other functional areas of the department as needed and required Physical activities include sweeping, shoveling, vacuuming, lifting/opening/dumping a minimum of 50# containers, climbing ladders and stairs, reaching/pulling/restacking packaged ingredients, scooping, maneuvering rolls of packaging film, etc. Minimum Qualifications: Must be 18 years of age or older Must have the ongoing right to work in the U.S. without sponsorship High School Diploma or GED Effective written and oral communication skills Proficiency in basic computer skills Must be able to lift, move, push, pull 55 lbs as required by the position Must be able to perform physical tasks for extended periods of time, including: standing, walking, climbing, bending, pushing, pulling and twisting over surfaces Willing and able to work any shift schedule, including nights and weekends, daily overtime and overtime outside your regular scheduled hours as required (more than 40 hours per week) Must be able to work in hot, cold, noisy, dusty, wet environmental working conditions Must be able to climb and/or work at heights while utilizing stairs, ladders, personal lifts, or platforms Willing and able to adhere to all safety standards and wear all necessary personal protective equipment such as safety shoes, face masks, safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hat/bump cap, hair/beard net and gloves when required Work in confined spaces such as bins, silos or tanks Preferred Qualifications: 1+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment Mechanical or electrical capability/experience Demonstrated leadership ability COMPANY OVERVIEW We exist to make food the world loves.
