Job Description Summary

Failure Analysis Engineer works with guidance to perform materials / hardware investigations and studies to define the primary/most probably causes causes for component failure or distressed conditions. Thorough documentation and communication of those findings internally within EMS and externally to Design & Systems Engineering. The Engineer also routinely collaborates with MAE, Design Engineering; Systems Engineering; Supply Chain and GEA Research on root cause investigations and Owns the Lab operations.

Site Overview

Established in 2000, the John F. Welch Technology Center (JFWTC) in Bengaluru is our multidisciplinary research and engineering center. Engineers and scientists at JFWTC have contributed to hundreds of aviation patents, pioneering breakthroughs in engine technologies, advanced materials, and additive manufacturing.

Roles Overview:

  • Maintain overall responsibility for operation and maintenance of the metallography equipment’s. Safe, clean, and organized laboratory work area.

  • Preparation of metallographic analysis of various sizes, shapes, and materials.

Sample preparation using cold and hot mount techniques

  • Sectioning, grinding and polishing

  • Chemical Etching

  • FPI inspection

  • Optical imaging/ Stereo imaging

  • Grain size measurements and image analysis

  • Micro-hardness measurements

  • Operate XRF and light microscopes

  • Support in the surface analysis like operation of SEM-EDX equipment

  • Maintain complete traceability of all aspects of each job including procedures, calibrations, documentation and funding expense, specification reviews, etc.

  • Create and maintain SOP for various tasks performed at the lab.

Ideal Candidate:

Should have experience in surface analysis techniques, such as SEM-EDX, Sample preparation, metallographic analysis.

Required Qualifications:

  • BE/Diploma in a technical discipline in mechanical and metallurgy strongly preferred or applicable technical expertise like mechanical can be considered.

  • ~5 years of work experience in a related field.

  • Ability to work on a wide variety of samples.

  • Creativity in approaching sample preparation, conducting analyses and making continual improvements.

  • Experience with surface analysis techniques, such as SEM-EDX is a plus.

  • Understanding of FA methods, tools, and techniques & their application.
