Job Description Summary
Edison Works, the military business unit of GE Aerospace, is on the front line of developing advanced technology to support our nation’s defense. The Next Generation Products team is responsible for Edison Works premier New Product Introduction (NPI), and this role is for a Systems Engineer with a focus on risk reduction & weight management.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Technical risk & weight management leader for the Next Gen Products program.
- Manage technical program risk, collaborate with cost & project risk focals, provide guidance & support to broader engineering community, and provide regular reports to leadership & customer.
- Support the structured burndown of risk in the product development process.
- Maintain running ledger for status & projected product weight, balance weight objective with risks/opportunities, & provide regular reports to leadership & customer.
- Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements.
- Provide technical leadership to personnel supporting the assigned project.
- Document technical data generated by the assigned project consistent with engineering policies and procedures
- Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments
- Participate on teams assigned to address organizational initiatives and generic issues.
- Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews.
- Has in-depth knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; has working knowledge of competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market
- Uses judgment to make decisions or solve moderately complex tasks or problems in areas of operational/product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering.
- Takes new perspective on existing solutions. Uses technical experience and expertise for data analysis to support recommendations. Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own function to arrive at decisions.
- Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. May lead small projects with moderate risks and resource requirements. Explains difficult or sensitive information; works to build consensus. Developing persuasion skills required to influence others on topics within field.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering (or a similar discipline focused on mechanical design or aerothermal sciences) from an accredited college or university
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in an engineering position
- This role requires the successful candidate to maintain a US Government Security Clearance; prerequisite for a security clearance is U.S. Citizenship. Preference will be given to candidates who currently hold US Government Security Clearance
Desired Characteristics
- US DoD risk management experience
- Engineering experience in GE Aerospace systems integration or similar systems engineering role
- Experience in engine certification or qualification
- Strong technical aptitude, including applicable engineering tools and systems
- Strong oral and written communication skills as well as interpersonal and leadership skills
- High level of computer proficiency
- Master’s Degree in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering related to turbomachinery design, testing, or systems engineering
- Talented, highly motivated with good engineering judgment
- Effective in contributing in a structured, cross functional team work environment
This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. Therefore, employment will be contingent upon the ability to prove that you meet the status of a U.S. Person as one of the following: U.S. lawful permanent resident, U.S. Citizen, have been granted asylee or refugee status (i.e., a protected individual under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)).
