Job Description Summary

This opening is for a Lead Engineer in Mechanical Systems Hardware/component design position within the MSE Module Section at GE Aerospace, working on a Future of Flight engine program.
The role functions as Hardware/component design engineer in aircraft engine bearing systems, sump hardware, and associated lubrication and pressurization systems. The Lead Engineer will own the design, analysis, and technology maturation of mechanical systems hardware, ensuring robust, certifiable, and competitive solutions for next-generation engines.

Site Overview

Established in 2000, the John F. Welch Technology Center (JFWTC) in Bengaluru is GE Aerospace’s multidisciplinary research and engineering center. Pushing the boundaries of innovation every day, engineers and scientists at JFWTC have contributed to hundreds of aviation patents, pioneering breakthroughs in engine technologies, advanced materials, and additive manufacturing.

Role Overview:

  • Own design and development of bearing systems and support structures to safely and efficiently transfer loads from rotating to static engine hardware
  • Lead bearing systems and sump hardware design and analysis, covering structural, thermal, lubrication, and rotordynamic aspects
  • Understand & apply analysis of lube and sump pressurization systems, including system interactions and performance across the full operating envelope
  • Drive conceptual/theoretical development of new and advanced technologies, including work related to advanced manufacturing
  • Build deep technical expertise in bearing and sump disciplines and apply it to execute technical strategy and policies
  • Understand key business drivers and how the team’s work integrates with other functions to deliver program and business outcomes
  • Exercise engineering judgment to propose solutions beyond standard parameters with mentorship, leveraging technical skills and analytical thinking
  • Operate as an individual contributor with strong interpersonal skills and provide informal mentorship to newer team members

Ideal Candidate:

Should have experience in mechanical design & exposure to FE analyses

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors/ Master’s Degree in Mechanical/ Aerospace Engineering or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience in component mechanical design & exposure to FE analyses
  • In-depth understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals
  • Exposure on design and analysis of static, rotor components and systems
  • Ability to evaluate and improve designs based on interdisciplinary design criteria
  • Proficiency in application of Geometry, Hand calculations/ Finite Element and optimization methods for design evaluation
  • Strong communication and presentation skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding of Mechanical Systems and Components (Sumps, Seals, Bearings, Lubrication & Pressurization Systems) will be an added advantage
  • Product knowledge about Aircraft engines or Gas turbine
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Experience on solving multi-disciplinary problems
  • Awareness of Lean/Six-sigma methodologies
  • Humble: respectful, receptive, agile, eager to learn
  • Transparent: shares critical information, speaks with candor, contributes constructively
  • Focused: quick learner, strategically prioritizes work, committed
