Job Description Summary
The lead inclement weather engineering role is an engineering discipline centered on an approach and process of using CFD to help analyze the expected gas turbine engine response in various conditions. The analysis conducted takes into consideration the technical needs of the regulatory agencies and customers with the goal of providing quality analysis that meets the gas turbine engine system needs. The role focuses on executing a robust process of design, recommendations, and optimization of systems, consisting of identification and quantification of system requirements, creation of alternate system design concepts, performance of design trade studies, selection and implementation of the best designs and verification that the design is properly integrated and executed. Process that proceeds from concept to production to operation. Impacts departmental operations and responsible for planning/execution. The role has some autonomy but is focused on execution of activities within an operating discipline covered by standard functional practices and procedures. Some judgment may be required but this is typically with guidance.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Drives engine and/or system level functional analysis to deliver customer projections. Defines and conducts analysis using 3D CFD techniques applied to multi-stage turbomachinery.
- Reports engine performance in inclement weather and ingestion with respect to the regulatory requirements and standards. Participates in the research, design, development, and enhancement of technologies in the areas of gas turbine inclement weather operation. Can include delivery of customer solutions that properly balance cost and benefit (including architecture, key design trade-offs, flow-down of requirements and flow-up of capability).
- Developing in-depth knowledge in the discipline for inclement weather using CFD and other tools as needed for analysis. Uses prior experience and acquired technical expertise to execute best practices/strategy.
- In-depth understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work. In-depth understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.
- Uses some level of judgment and has ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters but with guidance. Uses prior experience and on-the-job training to solve straightforward tasks. Has access to technical skills and analytic thinking required to solve problems. May use multiple internal sources outside of own team to arrive at decisions.
- A job at this level is likely to be an individual contributor with proven interpersonal skills.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited university or college
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in engineering
- Ability to work independently, but within a team environment
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.
