Job Description Summary
Engineering special process owner for at the Services Technology Acceleration Center (STAC) for Paint processes. Responsible for focused technical execution of projects related to paint trials, process development, and repair industrializations.
The job allows modification of procedures and practices covering work as long as the end results meet standards of acceptability (quality, volume, timeliness etc.).
Job Description
Role Overview:
- Leads manufacturing engineering projects with primarily tactical responsibilities and project delivery, while being able to interpret simple internal and external business challenges and recommend best practices to improve products, processes or services.
- Utilizes technical knowledge, analytical thinking and experience to problem solve, use judgement to make decisions on complex/challenging decisions.
- Has knowledge of best practices and how their own process area integrates with others throughout the repair processes.
- Uses some judgment and has some ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters to address more complicated manufacturing processes with technical variety and/or interdependent production cycles. Uses technical experience and analytical thinking. Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own teams to arrive at decisions.
- Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. Able to effectively communicate, developing skills and buy-in to bring team members to consensus around topics within field.
- Able to work with global MRO site-level Special Process owners to leverage best practices, communicate lessons learned, and drive process improvements to achieve yield entitlement and best in class cost of ownership
- Ability to interpret engineering Engine Shop Manual (ESM) and Standard Practice Manual (SPM) requirements and institute best practices. Can demonstrate ability to create standards and control within local Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Chemical, Materials, Mechanical, Manufacturing) or related technical field; or equivalent relevant experience in coatings / paint processes.
- Relevant experience in paint or coatings processes in aerospace, automotive, industrial, or similar high-specification manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of paint/coating systems (e.g., primers, topcoats, specialty/protective coatings), surface preparation, application methods (spray, dip, etc.), and cure processes. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and process standards.
- Demonstrated experience in structured problem solving, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective actions for process or product issues.
Preferred Characteristics:
- Strong oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems. Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs. Established project management skills.
- Aerospace coating/paint process experience, including work to OEM and aviation authority requirements; experience supporting NADCAP or equivalent special process accreditation.
- Experience with NADCAP paint/coatings, customer special process approvals, or relevant industry certifications. Six Sigma Green Belt/Black Belt or equivalent preferred.
- Experience with process monitoring tools, statistical analysis (SPC, capability), and digital systems (MES/ERP/PLM). Familiarity with FMEA, control plans, and APQP is a plus.
