Job Description Summary
The Quality Control Leader is responsible for overseeing all quality control process and inspection activities within an aerospace manufacturing environment. This role leads Quality Control Leads, CMM technicians, and inspectors, ensuring that inspection processes and systems consistently meet customer, regulatory, and internal standards. The position drives continuous improvement, implements robust quality control processes and daily management operating systems, and supports the adoption of advanced inspection technologies. The Senior Quality Control Leader also oversees training and certification of the quality team, monitors KPIs, and collaborates with Quality Assurance, Engineering and Manufacturing to enhance inspection efficiency and product quality.
Job Description
Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and manage Quality Control Leads, CMM technicians, and inspectors to ensure consistent performance, professional growth, and team effectiveness.
- Oversee dimensional and geometrical inspection processes, including the use of precision measurement equipment and CMM operation.
- Direct and support visual and mechanical inspections to ensure product conformity to engineering drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.
- Collaborate with Engineering and Manufacturing to create robust inspection plans and recommend process or design improvements that enhance product quality and inspection efficiency.
- Manage inspection workload, priorities, and resource allocation to optimize throughput and prevent production downtime.
- Create and deliver daily inspection performance reports, track key performance indicators (KPIs), and drive improvements to achieve inspection output and efficiency goals.
- Support the planning and execution of Measurement System Analysis (MSA) studies to ensure reliability and accuracy of inspection systems.
- Recommend and evaluate new inspection technologies, tools, and initiatives to improve efficiency, accuracy, and overall effectiveness of the inspection process.
- Implement, maintain, and sustain robust quality control processes and daily management operating systems, including: Lead daily performance meetings to review inspection progress, backlog, and quality issues, promoting accountability and timely problem resolution. Use visual performance boards to track KPIs and inspection throughput. Standardize work procedures and checklists to ensure consistent inspection execution. Establish escalation processes for non-conformances and urgent issues to ensure rapid response and mitigation. Maintain continuous feedback loops to monitor performance, implement corrective actions, and drive process improvements.
- Ensure compliance with aerospace standards and requirements, including AS9100 and AS9102 First Article Inspection (FAI).
- Collaborate with Quality Assurance, Engineering, Manufacturing teams to resolve quality issues, drive root cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Develop, coordinate, and oversee training and certification programs for Quality Control Leads, CMM technicians, and inspectors to maintain compliance and enhance technical capability.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality Management, or related field
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in aerospace manufacturing quality, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Experience leading root cause analysis, corrective and preventive action, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Experience with quality management software and systems, such as ERP, MRP, and quality tracking tools.
- Experience with aerospace manufacturing processes (e.g., machining, composite fabrication, welding, and assembly) and quality control methods specific to aerospace components
- Proven track record in training, mentoring, and certifying quality control personnel.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to interface effectively with customers, auditors, and cross-functional teams.
- Familiarity with NDT processes is an asset.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Strong knowledge of AS9100, AS9102, AS13100 and aerospace quality standards.
- Proficiency in dimensional and geometrical inspection methods, including CMM operation.
