Job Description Summary
The Sub-Section Manager (SSM) is a key leader responsible for driving team performance, aligning with organizational goals, and fostering a culture of excellence. They provide leadership and administrative management, ensuring technical recommendations are effectively communicated to stakeholders and leadership. The SSM actively participates in the technical execution of the team’s work, translating strategies into objectives aligned with Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost (SQDC) metrics. They define and support key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor progress and drive accountability. The SSM oversees team health, fostering an inclusive culture and addressing safety concerns proactively. They identify and develop resources aligned with business needs, ensuring the team is equipped to meet objectives. Their leadership is essential to achieving operational excellence and long-term success.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Lead an Engineering Team to design tooling for the assembly and disassembly of aviation engines, with team members' experience ranging from 6 months to over 20 years.
- Actively participate in local and global design and technical reviews, providing technical recommendations for tool designs.
- Own the overall schedule for tool designs across all commercial engines. Coordinate and manage the workload received for the module in charge, ensuring collaboration during the tool design process. Work closely with Program Managers, Module Leaders, Global stakeholders, Primary Contacts, and the Product Definition team throughout all phases of the design process
- Identify and promote the development of improved processes related to design, analysis, manufacturing, quality, and productivity.
- Establish and monitor programs, plans, and budgets to ensure business needs are met and customer satisfaction is achieved.
- Ensure employees receive training and guidance to increase their responsibilities and technical contributions.
- Establish and communicate work-group goals that meet the needs of the business.
- Provide leadership and administrative management by defining roles and responsibilities of assigned personnel. Conduct performance appraisals and participate in salary planning. Promote professional growth through timely performance feedback, coaching, and counseling.
- Represent and promote compliance activities as a member of the Engineering Division Compliance Team. Serve as a focal point for all compliance issues within the department and lead the department’s Compliance Team.
- Maintain awareness of technical efforts within the work group to ensure technical excellence, timely completion of work and reviews, appropriate use of resources, and consistency of methods across programs.
- Assure communication of technical and business information between organizations and within the work group. Communicate technical, organizational, resource, and personnel issues to higher management.
- Ensure procedures are established and adhered to, maintaining high-quality Engineering and Drafting that conform to Engineering Standards, Design Practices, and applicable Operating Procedures.
- Implement Engineering and Drafting Standards and specifications consistent with GE needs, policies, and practices.
- Deliver effective and efficient services for all assigned organizations.
- Point of contact between counterparts and GEIQ.
- Responsible for an entire organization within GEIQ.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Proven contributions in a similar role or previous position.
- Fluency in English: Must be able to maintain a normal day-to-day fluid conversation in English on any topic with few mistakes (mistakes that do not affect clear understanding). Must have fluency, rhythm, and sufficient self-confidence in the language to handle meetings and conversations.
- Demonstrated technical skills and experience aligned with tooling design.
- Experienced in managing budgets, headcount, and program approvals.
- Responsible for follow-up and completion of programs.
- Experience coordinating relevant projects with greater autonomy and ownership.
- Experience managing conflicts and labor issues, as well as giving complicated feedback with candor
- Demonstrated Project Management skills: Ability to document, plan, market, execute, control, close, and manage programs, projects, orders, activities, or systems.
- Highly independent management of GE processes.
- Strategic planning and execution.
- Proven experience successfully managing employees with Leadership bands.
