Job Description Summary

As a Turbomachinery Aero & Aeromechanics Engineer, they will primarily focus on maturing high-fidelity (LES) flow simulation process for turbomachinery components like high pressure turbines, turbine vane frames, low pressure turbines, turbine rear frame, fan blades, compressors, inlets and exhaust nozzles, impacting current and future engine programs. In this role it is expected to develop standardized simulation methodologies by collaborating with other team members and global design teams; learn the current aero & aeromechanical design processes and apply them to estimate performance of a component and utilize physics understanding to drive design changes, assess aerodynamics and aeromechanics related risks like performance short fall, flutter, forced response and devise testing strategies to validate the simulation methodologies.

Job Description

Site Overview:

Established in 2000, the John F. Welch Technology Center (JFWTC) in Bengaluru is GE Aerospace’s multidisciplinary research and engineering center. Pushing the boundaries of innovation every day, engineers and scientists at JFWTC have contributed to hundreds of aviation patents, pioneering breakthroughs in engine technologies, advanced materials, and additive manufacturing.

Role Overview:

  • Develop standardized simulation process for unsteady complex 3D flows

  • Perform CFD analysis to understand impact on aero and aeromechanical performance and articulate physics understanding in the form of flutter, forced response etc.

  • Develop high fidelity (LES) flow simulation process for current and future engine programs targeting components like Turbines, Frames, Fans, Compressors, Inlet and Exhausts

  • Work collaboratively with global design team on process validation

  • Leverage digital and machine learning techniques to improve capacity

  • Assist building external funding proposals

  • Make recommendations after analysis of the data using quality tools.

Protect the Intellectual Property rights of the company:

  • Participate in sharing & documenting lessons learnt into relevant design practices & design boards

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Ideal candidate should have experience in turbomachinery aerodynamics & aeromechanics and CFD simulations methods (RANS, LES)

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD/Post graduate degree in Aerospace/Mechanical Engineering

  • Strong technical background in Fluid Dynamics, Turbomachinery Aerodynamics & Aeromechanics and CFD methods (RANS, LES)

  • At least 3+ years of hands-on experience on using commercial/in-house CFD tools in simulating turbomachinery flows and design applications

  • Ability to own end-to end CFD processes involving CAD generation, meshing, case set up, solver run, user defined functions and post processing scripts

  • Strong problem-solving skills, self-learning abilities and shown track record for technical excellence

  • Ability to work in a cross-functional environment with strong communication and presentation skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hands on experience of simulating complex unsteady, multistage flows

  • Exposure and understanding of higher fidelity CFD methods like Large Eddy Simulation (LES)

  • Exposure to mesh morphing techniques and associated methodologies

  • Excellent coding skills in Python/C

  • Experience of using Machine learning methods and optimization techniques

  • Be flexible and adapt to work on other critical priorities

At GE Aerospace, we have a relentless dedication to the future of safe and more sustainable flight and believe in our talented people to make it happen. Here, you will have the opportunity to work on really cool things with really smart and collaborative people. Together, we will mobilize a new era of growth in aerospace and defense.
