Job Description Summary
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Mechanical Design Engineer who is passionate about the Mechanical Design discipline.
As a Design Engineer (E3), you will contribute to design projects and perform key responsibilities related to Turbomachinery hardware, assemblies, analysis, and processes for aero engines. Working within a multi-functional team environment, you will help achieve objectives focused on safety, fleet stability, and cost efficiency.
This role requires proven expertise in Mechanical Design, as you will have the autonomy to make decisions, apply advanced concepts to solve moderate engineering challenges, and address critical tasks. For highly complex challenges, you will collaborate with senior engineers to ensure successful outcomes.
Job Description
- Provide Mechanical Design Engineering support to improve or resolve design, repair, supplier or field issues.
- Lead the solution of medium complex high-impact technical problems with minimal supervision.
- Concurrently work on multiple projects, monitoring progress and quality, and ensuring schedule requirements are met.
- Coach and mentor others in the mechanical design assessments of assigned tasks.
- Document technical data generated to substantiate the assigned components, assemblies and/or systems consistent with engineering policies and procedures.
- Work within the guidelines of applicable GE Policies and Procedures, Engineering Standards, Design Customer Operating Procedures, Specifications, Government and Commercial Standards, and special security requirements.
- Monitor and communicate project status, business issues, and significant developments.
- Participate as a presenter in technical and program reviews for internal and external customers.
- Effectively communicate and provide recommendations to internal customers through the analysis, preparation, and presentation of technical data.
- Interact with engineers from multiple disciplines within GEIQ and globally.
Required Qualifications
- BS degree in Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics Engineering.
- Knowledge in Mechanical Stress, Low Cycle and High Cycle Fatigue and/or Thermal Analysis.
- Mechanical Design Knowledge such as Tolerance, GD&T, Stack-up analysis and Manufacturing Processes.
- Able to perform Engineering hand calculations and usage of technical standards.
- Proven knowledge of Ansys and NX design.
- Proven experience Leading or Mentoring Engineering Teams.
- Familiar with gas turbine engine operation.
- Proficient oral and written communication skills in English.
- Presentation Skills: Ability to communicate with Senior Leadership.
- Demonstrated ability in managing multiple own projects.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated interpersonal and leadership experience.
- Effective problem identification and solution skills.
Desired Characteristics
- MSc in Mechanical Design or Finite Element Analysis.
- Turbomachinery Design experience in Airfoils, Rotating Parts or Structures.
- Ability to adapt, be flexible and responsive with deliverables.
- Humble: respectful, receptive, agile, eager to learn.
- Transparent: shares critical information, speaks with candor, contributes constructively
- Problem solver: analytical-minded, challenges existing processes, critical thinker.
