Job Description Summary

The Combined Cycle Power Plant Process Engineer is responsible for optimizing the performance, reliability, and efficiency of all process systems within a combined cycle power plant. This role focuses on analyzing plant data, supporting operations, troubleshooting equipment and process issues, and driving continuous improvement of thermal performance and operational safety.

Job Description


Key Responsibilities:

Plant Performance & Optimization:

  • Monitor and analyse plant performance data for gas turbine, steam turbine, HRSG,WSC.

  • Identify efficiency losses, heat rate deviations, and bottlenecks in the CCPP process.

  • Conduct cycle performance calculations (e.g., mass/energy balances, thermodynamic).

  • Recommend and implement optimization measures to improve output and reduce fuel consumption.

  1. Operations Support
  • Provide technical support to operations during normal operation, start-up, shutdown, and transient conditions.

  • Troubleshoot process abnormalities, trips, and alarms; propose corrective actions.

  • Short notice availability to support events and issues at the station.

Engineering Analysis & Technical Studies:

  • Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for process-related issues or equipment failures.

  • Conduct thermal performance tests for major equipment and overall plant cycle.

  • Prepare process simulations.

  • Develop and maintain PFDs, P&IDs, heat and material balances, and engineering documentation.

Project & Modification Support:

  • Evaluate engineering change requests and support plant modifications or upgrades (efficiency projects, equipment replacements, control logic improvements).

  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and design standards.

  • Support Risk Reduction Projects and Management of Change process.

  1. Compliance, Reporting & Documentation
  • Prepare performance reports, KPIs, trend analyses, and technical presentations.

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements related to emissions, safety, and operations.

  • Maintain documentation related to process engineering, testing, and plant improvements, including Operation Procedures and Work Instructions.


Qualifications:

Education:

  • Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.

  • Master’s degree is a plus.

Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience in combined cycle power plants or thermal power generation.

  • Strong understanding of gas turbine and steam turbine operation, HRSG systems, water-steam cycle chemistry, and plant heat balance.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong foundation in thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics.

  • Experience with power plant performance software.

  • Competency in DCS control logic, data historians, and performance dashboards.

  • Ability to read and revise P&IDs, PFDs, and engineering drawings.

  • Proficiency in MS Excel and data analytics.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Effective communication for interfacing with operations, maintenance, and management.

  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.

  • Team-oriented mindset with strong safety awareness.
