Job Description Summary
As part of GE Vernova – Power Conversion & Storage, the Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring supplier quality compliance across Gas Power, Solar, and Power Conversion product portfolios. This includes systems such as starters, exciters, control systems, inverters, battery energy storage systems, and low- and medium-voltage drives.Reporting to the Supplier Quality Leader, the role is accountable for executing supplier quality strategies, ensuring compliance with renewable energy quality requirements, and achieving defined supplier performance objectives.
Job Description
Supplier Qualification & Development:
- Conduct supplier audits (quality systems, processes, and product audits) in alignment with standards issued by the International Organization for Standardization, including ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001, as well as internal regulatory requirements.
- Evaluate and qualify new suppliers for power-electronics and electrical components, including semiconductor devices, protection equipment, control components, power supplies, communication systems, sensors, and safety systems.
- Perform supplier risk assessments, process capability studies, and production capacity evaluations.
- Lead Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) activities and ensure appropriate Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) qualification for new components.
- Manage engineering change notifications (ECN) in coordination with engineering and suppliers.
Quality Assurance & Performance Management:
- Review and approve supplier documentation such as control plans, PFMEA, process flow diagrams, and work instructions.
- Develop supplier scorecards, monitor performance metrics, and lead periodic supplier performance reviews.
- Support and witness Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and prepare qualification reports.
- Lead structured problem-solving initiatives using methodologies such as 8D, Fishbone/Ishikawa, and 5-Why analysis.
- Manage supplier non-conformities, ensuring timely corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Drive initiatives to reduce Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) and Cost of Failure Recovery (COFR).
Continuous Improvement & Collaboration:
- Implement Lean, Kaizen, and Six Sigma methodologies with suppliers to improve yield, reduce waste, and enhance process capability.
- Participate in supplier process audits, identify improvement opportunities, and drive closure actions.
- Act as the interface between customers and suppliers to resolve field quality issues.
- Collaborate with design, sourcing, and operations teams to align supplier capabilities with product requirements.
- Provide technical guidance and training to suppliers to support continuous improvement.
- Ensure supplier compliance with sustainability and environmental requirements.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree (B.E. / B.Tech) in Electrical & Electronics Engineering or Electronics & Communication Engineering.
- Minimum 6 years of experience in supplier quality or manufacturing quality within electrical, electronics, or power-electronics industries.
- Strong technical expertise in components such as semiconductor devices, breakers, protection devices, power supplies, UPS/batteries, sensors, communication modules, and related systems.
- Demonstrated experience with APQP, PPAP, FMEA, SPC, MSA, FAT, and EMI/EMC compliance.
- Professional certifications in ISO auditing and Lean Six Sigma (Green Belt or higher) preferred.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally to supplier locations.
- Strong communication, auditing, analytical, and stakeholder-management skills.
