Job Description Summary
As a Lead Continuous Improvement Engineer, you will serve as a key enabler of operational excellence within our Centers of Excellence (COEs). Embedded within production areas, you will partner with COE leaders and teams to improve stability, flow, and execution against Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost (SQDC) objectives tied to our target conditions.
This role is focused on building sustainable systems and problem‑solving capability, not simply executing short‑term projects. Success in this role is measured by improved COE performance, leader ownership of improvement, and sustained results.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- COE‑Dedicated Lean Support:Serve as the primary Lean partner for assigned COEs, deeply understanding processes, constraints, and KPIs to support roadmap execution, operational stability and target conditions.
- Problem Solving & Coaching:Coach and support leaders and teams in structured problem solving (4D, 8D, A3), ensuring ownership of problems, countermeasures, and results remains within the COE.
- Flow, Standard Work & Stability:Apply Lean tools such as takt analysis, value stream mapping, and standard work to improve flow, reduce lead time, and stabilize daily execution.
- 5S & Visual Management:Implement and sustain effective 5S and visual management systems that support safety, quality, and operational discipline.
- Capability Building:Develop continuous improvement capability in supervisors, engineers, and operators, enabling teams to independently lead improvements over time.
- Sustainable Lean Execution:Lead Lean improvements aligned to COE priorities with a strong focus on sustaining gains through standard work, leader routines, and daily management systems.
- Lean Leadership:Act as a Lean subject matter expert and coach, reinforcing consistent Lean methods and language across the site.
This role is not intended to provide administrative support, purchasing, installation, or project management for non‑Lean initiatives.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university (Engineering or related technical field preferred) with a minimum of 2 years of experience in Lean, Continuous Improvement, or Manufacturing Engineering
OR
- High School Diploma / GED with a minimum of 6 years of experience in manufacturing leadership or continuous improvement roles
Desired Characteristics
- Strong proficiency in Lean tools (VSM, standard work, 5S, Kaizen, problem solving)
- Demonstrated ability to coach rather than “do”, enabling teams to own improvements
- Comfortable spending significant time on the shop floor
- Strong communication skills across all levels of the organization
- Analytical and data‑driven mindset
- High integrity, strong follow‑through, and a high say‑do ratio
- Passion for building sustainable systems and people capability
What Success Looks Like
- COE roadmaps executed with improved stability
- Leaders confidently leading problem solving
- Improvements sustained through standard work
- Reduced firefighting and escalation
- Lean support becoming more strategic over time
