The IPTSE D&R Engineering Trainee is a developmental role designed to provide foundational knowledge in the design, development, and validation of ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) Propulsion parts. Under the mentorship of senior D&R Engineers, the Trainee will assist in the release process for assigned programs, ensuring parts meet quality, cost, and weight targets. The Trainee will learn to navigate Corporate and Local requirements, including Worldwide Customers Requirements (WCR) and Engineering Specifications (ES), while gaining hands-on experience in the automotive manufacturing and assembly environment.
• Process Learning: Develop a comprehensive understanding of the Global Product Development System (GPDS) and technical design rules for IPTSE systems.
• Documentation Support: Assist in the creation and maintenance of Robustness Engineering Disciplines, including Quality History, P-Diagrams, and FMEA.
• Part Releasing: Support the release of parts in FEDEBOM and WERS under supervision. Help audit and update the Bill of Materials (BOM) for prototype builds.
• Validation Assistance: Assist in identifying design validation and functional tests required by SDS and CETPs. Support the tracking of Design Verification (DV) testing progress.
• Issue Tracking: Learn to use AIMS and JIRA to document and track prototype and launch issues, assisting senior engineers in VVT resolution.
• Sourcing Support: Participate in the development of Engineering Statements of Work (ESOW) and observe the supplier selection and sourcing process.
• Meeting Participation: Attend Technical Design Review Meetings (TDRM), Change Control Meetings, and VRT/PVT meetings to document action items and technical decisions.
• Plant Interaction: Support part implementation and sign-offs at the Assembly Plant, gaining exposure to quality issues and launch milestones (APQP/PSW/PPAP).
• Evidence Management: Maintain evidence books to document design development, testing results, and sign-offs.
• Education: Currently enrolled in the final period of an Engineering Degree (Mechanical, Mechatronics, Automotive, or related field).
• Language: English proficiency (ability to participate in technical discussions).
• Communication: Strong ability to interact with cross-functional teams and present findings.
• Automotive Interest: General knowledge of vehicle functions and a strong interest in the automotive industry environment.
• Software: Basic 3D CAD knowledge (ability to open files, take measurements, and visualize components).
• Tools: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Fundamentals: Basic understanding of material properties and manufacturing production processes.
o Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
o Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
o Ability to work in a collaborative, high-performing lab environment.
Desired Skills (Plus):
• Basic knowledge of ICE Powertrain or Thermal Systems.
• Exposure to Problem Solving methodologies (e.g., Six Sigma, DMAIC, or G8D) through university projects or internships.
• Familiarity with technical drawing standards and GD&T.
• Proactive attitude with a strong desire to learn complex engineering systems (internal tracking systems, CATIA).
• Strong organizational and project management skills.
