This newly created role sits within the Office of the CTO and is central to delivering EY Oceania’s AI and Data strategy, one of our most significant strategic investment priorities.

As AI adoption accelerates, we are advancing secure and scalable environments that enable responsible innovation. As our Oceania AI Labs Manager, you will partner with technology teams to lead the design and oversight of our AI sandbox ecosystem, the core platforms powering safe, governed and high impact experimentation.

You will have broad access to our experimentation environments and the opportunity to shape how they evolve, enabling new tools, capabilities and ways of working. This is a role for someone who enjoys building, exploring and refining platforms that unlock innovation at pace.

You will serve as the technical and operational authority for these environments, combining sandbox expertise with governance, licensing oversight and financial discipline.

Working closely with Data, Technology, Risk and Innovation teams, you will ensure our experimentation platforms remain secure, fit for purpose and positioned to support emerging innovation ambitions.

This role can be performed from any EY office across Australia. Flexible work arrangements may be considered.

Ko Tō Rourou | Your key responsibilities

Sandbox SME and Enablement

  • Partner with technology teams to lead the provisioning, design and optimisation of AI Lab (sandbox) environments, such as Azure, AWS and Google Cloud.

  • Work with the Global EY Fabric team to ensure alignment with enterprise cloud architecture and security standards.

  • Define structured pathways to transition successful experimentation into production environments.

Enterprise AI Licensing and Financial Stewardship

  • Manage Oceania’s enterprise AI tool licensing framework, including intake, assessment and approval facilitation.

  • Coordinate stakeholder approvals across business, risk and technology teams.

  • Manage licensing budgets and provide clear reporting on usage, value and optimisation opportunities.

Governance and Controls

  • Oversee data usage controls, access and lifecycle management across the AI Labs

  • Collaborate with the Oceania Data Lead, Risk, and Legal teams to ensure compliance with EY’s data policies and regulatory obligations.

  • Maintain clear documentation and transparency across AI Lab environments.

Stakeholder Leadership

  • Partner with Oceania’s Digital leaders to balance AI experimentation demand with governance integrity.

  • Provide guidance on safe and scalable experimentation design.

Ngā Pūkenga | Skills and attributes for success

This role suits a technically fluent manager who understands AI experimentation at an SME and governance level.

Technical Experience

  • Comfortable exploring and experimenting within AI sandbox environments to validate tools, capabilities and emerging use cases.

  • Experience establishing, managing or building in sandbox/experimentation environments

  • Working knowledge of enterprise AI platforms such as Azure, OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Gemini, Databricks or similar.

Governance and Financial Discipline

  • Experience operating within enterprise security and data governance frameworks.

  • Capability in managing token consumption, licensing oversight and cost optimisation.

Stakeholder and Influence

  • Strong stakeholder management skills across technical and business domains.

  • Ability to balance innovation enablement with governance and financial control.
