AI Engineer – AI GTM Engine Room (Manager)

The Opportunity

Join EY’s AI Go to Market (GTM) Engine Room, a high-velocity build capability at the centre of our Oceania AI growth strategy.

As an AI Engineer, you will lead the experimentation, prototyping and deployment of advanced AI and Generative AI solutions that support client pursuits, industry demonstrations and scalable sector offerings. Working with leading foundation models and orchestration frameworks, you will translate emerging capabilities into practical, commercially viable solutions.

Within the AI Labs Engine Room, you will operate across enterprise-grade environments, advanced tooling and significant model and compute capacity, enabling experimentation and iteration at scale within secure enterprise guardrails.

You will combine rapid innovation with production discipline, leading engineers from concept to working solution at pace, shaping reusable AI accelerators and maturing successful prototypes into scalable enterprise deployments.

You will play a key role in shaping AI positioning across priority sectors and strategic accounts.

This role is based in Warrang – Sydney. This role can be performed from any of our EY offices across Australia. Our roles can potentially be adjusted to work flexibly with reduced hours. Please speak with us about potential options.

Your key responsibilities

  • Lead the prototyping and deployment of AI and Generative AI solutions supporting client pursuits and scalable sector offerings.

  • Architect and implement LLM-powered applications and agentic workflows, including multi-agent orchestration and advanced tool/function calling patterns.

  • Design and oversee data-driven architectures across cloud and hybrid environments.

  • Engineer scalable AI systems with embedded Responsible AI, governance and security controls.

  • Establish and embed MLOps and LLMOps practices including lifecycle management, experimentation tracking (MLflow, Weights & Biases), monitoring and safe deployment.

  • Design and optimise data pipelines integrating structured and unstructured data sources.

  • Select and implement vector database strategies alongside relational and NoSQL systems.

  • Deploy and optimise AI workloads across AWS, Azure or GCP using containerisation, CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code.

  • Mentor and guide junior engineers within the Engine Room.

  • Evaluate emerging models, orchestration approaches and low-code platforms to continuously strengthen EY’s AI capability.

Skills and attributes for success

You are an experienced hands-on AI engineer who thrives in fast-moving environments and is comfortable leading technical design and delivery.

You will bring:

  • Strong foundation in AI, machine learning and Generative AI with proven hands-on delivery experience.

  • Deep experience working with LLMs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Llama or equivalent).

  • Strong experience with orchestration frameworks such as Lang Chain and agentic system design.

  • Demonstrated experience applying MLOps and LLMOps in production or near-production environments.

  • Strong data engineering capability and architectural decision-making experience.

  • Experience deploying and optimising AI workloads across AWS, Azure or GCP.

  • Advanced Python programming capability and strong software engineering discipline.

  • Strong understanding of Responsible AI, compliance and enterprise security guardrails.

  • Ability to lead technical discussions with architects, sector leaders and clients.

Ideally, you’ll also have the skills and attributes below but don’t worry if you don’t tick all the boxes. We’re interested in your aptitude, attitude and willingness to learn.

  • Experience leading AI solutions that support commercial pursuits or reusable sector offerings.

  • Experience mentoring engineers or leading technical workstreams.

  • Exposure to model evaluation frameworks and structured experimentation environments.

  • A degree in computer science, engineering, data science or related discipline.
