Exxon Mobil's state-of-the-art campus north of Houston serves as home to its Upstream, Product Solutions and Low Carbon Solutions businesses and their associated service groups. The facility opened in 2014 and accommodates more than 10,000 employees and visitors.

What role you will play in our team

We are planning to hire an experienced Subsea Engineer (Systems & Hardware) to work out of Exxon Mobil’s Houston Campus in the United States of America. The candidate would be part of Exxon Mobil’s Subsea Systems team in Exxon Mobil Technology and Engineering organization. Subsea Engineers (Systems and Hardware) provide corporate-wide technical and advisory support in the areas of subsea systems and architecture, responsible for developing and applying design and operating criteria for Exxon Mobil’s diverse, global portfolio of assets, new developments, and industry-led initiatives.

What you will do

  • Develop, specify, and apply subsea systems design criteria for wide variety of activities, developments, and operations, i.e. large-scale deepwater capital projects, R&D programs, offshore installation activities, and low carbon solutions opportunities

  • Involvement in various subsea project support efforts from concept evaluation and selection to commissioning and start up

  • Participate in risk assessments, root cause failure analyses, technology evaluations/selections, and offshore installation of subsea designs

  • Develop and carry out procedures for FAT, EFAT, SIT, and pre-loadout of subsea systems

  • Participate in subsea industry activities (e.g. OTC, SSTB, industry committees)

  • Lead revision to company standards and/or industry practices

  • Support subsea operations issue identification and resolution efforts

  • Interface with people from different disciplines (e.g. marine, risers, pipelines, flow assurance, facilities) to align on work scopes and work products

  • Interface with suppliers, contractors, and other third parties to ensure work products are in alignment with Exxon Mobil expectations

  • Provide management with sound recommendations and context for subsea system design philosophies and strategic contracting decisions

  • Monitor and provide engineering oversight of third party engineering contractors and service providers to various Business Units

  • Steward Exxon Mobil’s subsea software and tools development, including internal subsea system design/selection guides

  • Mentor and guide less experienced engineers in the subsea discipline

  • Sustain and promote Exxon Mobil’s safety culture

About you

Skills and Qualifications

  • B.S. or M.S. degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical, Civil, or Chemical Engineering

  • 5 to 15 years’ experience in subsea design or operations with expertise in at least one of the following - subsea systems, subsea operations, and/or subsea processing

  • Working knowledge of subsea systems, including system level analysis, field layout design considerations, flow assurance requirements, and operational and integrity programs.

  • Working knowledge of subsea processing and power technologies, their appropriate application and specific design concerns including field layout design considerations, reservoir impacts, flow assurance requirements and operational requirements. .

  • Familiar with typical equipment and component selection drivers & tradeoffs, failure modes and demonstrated ability to diagnose the problem

  • Working knowledge of applying subsea engineering codes & standards, such as API 6A, 17D, 17P, 17R, 17N, 17Q and other relevant API, ISO, and ASME subsea systems and piping standards

  • Demonstrated familiarity with a typical subsea system including general layout, process flow and chemical distribution, types of subsea control systems, and topside systems/interfaces

  • Familiar with offshore oil & gas processing systems

  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of software programs

  • Ability to read, write, and speak fluent English

  • Broad knowledge of industry standards, best practices, and related work processes

  • Ability to adapt to tight deadlines and frequent changes in priorities

  • Strong leadership, influencing, and interpersonal skills, ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional and international teams.

  • Strong organizational, coordination, planning, and interface skills

  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
