Principal SDE
Introduction to the team :
Brand Expedia is built for the whole trip traveller, with Cars and Activities playing a central role in bringing that vision to life. Our mission is to create seamless, inspiring, and intuitive travel experiences by elevating shopping, simplifying discovery, and enabling travellers to effortlessly attach and organize every part of their journey.
This Principal role is critical to laying the technology foundation that enables this vision, driving scalable platforms, accelerating innovation, and ensuring our systems are built to support long term growth and evolving traveller needs.
In this role, you will:

Drive architectural decisions, ensuring quality, reliability, and maintainability across large-scale distributed systems.
-
Mentor, influence, and develop engineering teams, fostering technical excellence and best practices.
-
Champion the integration and operation of AI/ML‑enabled solutions that improve business and customer outcomes.
-
Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to define technical solutions and deliver impactful business results.
-
Guide the adoption of modern development methodologies, system design, API design, and robust data modeling practices.
Minimum Qualifications:
-
Extensive experience (typically 10+ years) in software engineering, with at least several years operating at principal or equivalent level in large-scale systems.
-
Deep proficiency in one or more technologies such as Java, Kotlin, React, AWS frameworks, with strong hands on coding and system design skills.
-
Proven ability to own and deliver complex software solutions at multi-service, multi-domain, or organizational scale.
-
Demonstrated ability to lead cross-team technical initiatives, influence senior stakeholders, and drive architectural decisions for complex products or platforms.
-
Familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real world products.
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Experience in consumer-facing or marketplace domains such as travel, e-commerce, mobility, or payments, with direct impact on customer or partner outcomes.
-
Demonstrated leadership in software architecture, driving best practices for code quality, system performance, and scalability.
-
Strong track record of data-driven decision making and iterative, user-centered solution design.
-
Ability to safely integrate and operate advanced AI/ML features, including recommenders or personalization engines, within platform services.
-
Experience with observability and reliability practices, including metrics, logging, tracing, SLOs, and collaboration with SRE/operations teams.
