Primary Purpose

Manage the department and its personnel in providing operational, technical, Regulatory and financial analysis and support for Transmission and Substations (T&S) Engineering organization in the management of complex Investments and Initiatives consisting of cross-functional teams involving multiple engineering disciplines (Transmission lines (Overhead and Underground), Substations (Civil and Electrical), Relay & Protection, Reliability Programs, Communications and SCADA). Manage personnel and activities of T&S Reliability and Resiliency: Performance, Measurements, Reporting (internal and external), ad-hoc Analysis, Tracking and coordinating related actions. Lead the identification, evaluation and analysis of business and strategic issues that are impacted by the state and federal regulatory requirements. Lead the team to develop responses to regulators and other external stakeholders in defending investments, explaining analysis, and creating investment plans. Collaborate with partnering organizations in attainment of business goals and objectives. Develop and maintain an environment that promotes diverse culture and inclusion, accountability and fosters teamwork.

Primary Duties

Lead department personnel and as/when needed perform:

  • Operational, technical, regulatory and financial analysis in support of Transmission and Substations (T&S) Engineering various Reliability and Resiliency investment and initiatives. (35%)
  • Writing of responses to regulators and other external stakeholders in defending investments, explaining analysis, and creating business proposals, including (in collaboration with other departments) drafting of multi-year grid plan chapters, testimonies, work papers and data requests. (20%)
  • Directly interface and partner with internal departments, including multi-levels of Com Ed and Exelon leadership to ensure categories and scale of T&S investments (proposed and after the fact) are justified and explained. (15%)
  • Analysis & Reporting of Reliability & Resiliency Performance, Measurements, Tracking and coordination of related initiatives. Active participation in system-wide initiatives regarding the T&S actions on: resiliency, reliability, preventative maintenance, and regulatory compliance issues (15%)
  • Lead, coach and develop team members to improve performance and meet or exceed expectations. Mentor less experienced colleagues. Provide accurate and timely feedback regarding performance and operations. Conduct performance planning and appraisals. Identify opportunities for growth and learning (15%)

Job Scope

  • Provides Governance & Oversight to the department on the assigned T&S initiatives/tasks
  • Partners with T&S Engineering and Operations Senior Managers and their teams in setting and implementing strategies Reliability and Resiliency investments, regulatory responses, business plans.
  • Develops, participates, and guides the reporting team on:External reporting requirements on investments and associated benefits
  • Analytics to ensure investment optimization across multiple T&S investment categories
  • T&S Reliability and Resiliency: Performance, Measurements, Reporting (internal and external), ad-hoc Analysis, Tracking and coordination of related actions
  • Bringing together various T&S teams to foster improved collaboration, efficiencies, and knowledge sharing leading to innovative solutions
  • Standardizing and integrating processes across T&S for project and program management to improve consistency and quality
  • Works collaboratively and very closely with T&S Engineering and Operations, Com Ed Investment Strategy, Projects & Contracts Management (P&CM), Finance, Plant Accounting, Legal and other Com Ed/EU departments on ensuring that reliability & Resiliency investments and initiatives targets are met, tracked, trended, adjusted (as applicable) and reported
  • Leads and Manages 4-8 direct reports with various levels of engineering, technical writing, regulatory and data analysis experience
  • Applies technical knowledge to help promote a safe work environment and to enhance customer satisfaction
  • Establishes performance goals and expectations, coaches, mentors and provides feedback to direct reports
  • Drives self and department staff to excel in all Exelon Core Competencies

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering and 7-10 years of delivery experience
  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge and ability to apply problem solving approaches and engineering theory.
  • Knowledge and understanding of engineering designs, principles and practices
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, practices, and advanced engineering principles.
  • Advanced knowledge of latest technologies necessary to perform a variety of specialized unique or complex assignments for various installation types of services.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member, including the ability to handle conflicting priorities in a multi-tasking environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, teamwork, problem solving, motivational, negotiation, time management, and oral/written communication skills are required.
  • Ability to create effective working relationships with employees, customers, other departments, and outside agencies, extremely customer focused
  • Self-initiator and proven performance management skills
  • Proven leadership ability in a high-performance culture.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate degree or graduate level work in Engineering, Business Administration or related field
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or Project Management Professional (PMP)
  • 3-5 years of supervisor or manager experience

  • Annual salary will vary based on a candidate’s skills, qualifications, experience, and other factors: $120,800.00/Yr. – $166,100.00/Yr.
