Primary Purpose

The Senior Communications Specialist is responsible for planning and executing external or internal communications programs and activities as needed by the Managers of Communications or Directors of Communications. The Specialist serves as a point of contact for external or internal communications and works in or with the business units to coordinate content, guidelines and implementation, and to ensure consistent messaging and corporate identity. Responsibilities include media relations, interaction with advertising/marketing vendors and community outreach.

Primary Duties

  • Ensure effective communication of company goals and initiatives to external or internal stakeholders (20%)
  • Support and participate in the development and implementation of internal and external communications programs and initiatives. (20%)
  • Manage a variety of external, internal and marketing communications tasks to support leadership, including preparation of a range of communications publications, talking points, presentations, and other materials. (20%)
  • Develop strong working relationship with other business units, local press and community officials, as needed, to implement community outreach programs. (20%)
  • Coordinate media outreach initiatives as needed. (20%)

Job Scope

  • Directly supports the Manager, Communications, or Director, Communications, as needed.
  • Position activities are focused on internal and external communications to employees and external stakeholders, which support initiatives and projects developed by corporate communications and business unit organizations for broader application.
  • Requires significant outreach to internal and external audiences and development of strong relationships
  • Involves proactive communication planning and plan execution, project leadership and a high level of coordination with other communication functions within Corporate.
  • Requires ability to develop communications strategies
  • Requires ability to travel
  • Works under minimal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 4-year relevant degree and 4-7 years' experience in communications (media relations, employee communications or advertising).
  • Proven, excellent communications skills; both written and interpersonal.
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent organizational and presentation skills
  • Proven ability to be innovative and creative
  • Ability to work autonomously and interface easily with senior business leaders and the local press.
  • Proven experience in media relations and public relations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Advertising, or related field
  • Energy business/industry knowledge
  • Spanish language proficiency preferred

  • Annual salary will vary based on a candidate’s skills, qualifications, experience, and other factors: $78,400.00/Yr. – $107,800.00/Yr.
