Primary Purpose
Benefits Consultant to serve as a subject matter expert for our health & welfare, retirement, and ancillary benefit programs for our multi-operational organization, where programs offered are complex and nuanced, dependent on multiple collectively bargained agreements and include varying legacy benefits. The role requires strong attention to detail and excellent written and presentation skills. In addition to understanding the benefits offered, the person in this position will manage annual and ongoing employee communications, draft new employee communications when benefit programs change (and/or work with vendors to manage communication campaigns) as well as create and manage complex change management plans
Primary Duties
- Benefit Subject Matter Expert: Serve as a go-to resource for explanations of what is offered within our programs, either through written communications or in employee meetings or presentations.

- Standard annual communications projects: Review, update and project management of new hire materials, open enrollment materials, Summary Plan Description updates, compliance mailings, etc.

- Employee Experience: Design clear, empathetic communications (guides, microsites, FAQs, campaigns) that simplify complex topics and promote benefit understanding and utilization. Partner with key colleagues (legal and corporate communications) on communications to ensure compliance and coordination with corporate wide communication expectations.

- Project and Implementation Leadership: Build and drive project plans, timelines, and stakeholder alignment for plan changes, new program implementations and benefit vendor transitions.

- Manage Vendor Partner Communications: Work with vendors to understand what materials they have that can be leveraged for our benefits communications. In some cases, the vendors may be in charge of fulfillment, in which your role is to project manage the communication project, including review of draft materials and coordinating with IT and corporate communications as needed if the communications will be via email.

Minimum Qualifications
- 4-year degree with a minimum of 7 to 10 years at large complex organizations working with employee benefit plans and/or writing corporate communications
- Proven successful experience with detailed project management and change management
- Strong general communication and presentation skills
- Strong leader with the ability to motivate others to work toward a shared business vision
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks in a demanding work environment is essential.
- Ability to learn and apply knowledge as needed around complex plan design variations for different employee groups.
- In lieu of degree 9-12 years of relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Work history focused on communications and change management specific to employee benefit plans.
- Experience communicating and understanding complexities with organizations with multiple unions
- Understanding of employee benefits regulatory requirements
- Experience implementing or communicating implementations of new employee benefit programs or vendors

Annual salary will vary based on a candidate’s skills, qualifications, experience, and other factors: $107,200.00/Yr. – $147,400.00/Yr.
