Primary Purpose

The senior manager, editorial serves as editor-in-chief of The Grid, Exelon’s content hub, and provides editorial direction and support across Exelon’s communications organization. Support Director of Employee Communications and Executive Thought Leadership in advising and counseling executive leaders within Exelon with respect to communications issues, strategies and tactics. Oversee staff of communicators in execution and management of editorial and employee communications. Manage assigned communications projects and monitor enterprise-wide issues. Assist Director of Employee Communications and Executive Thought Leadership to ensure that communications plans and processes reinforce employee understanding of and compliance with company policies. Assign and manage communications resources as required in support of the Director of Employee Communications and Executive Thought Leadership. Represent and back up the Director of Employee Communications and Executive Thought Leadership in their absence. Additional duties include reviewing employee performance; assigning, critiquing and editing communication materials; coaching and feedback; motivating and setting direction; providing oversight; and integrating communications at the site.

Note: This is a hybrid position (in-office with remote flexibility). Employees are required to be in office at least three days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday).

This role is open to our corporate offices within IL, PA, MD or Washington DC.

Primary Duties

  • Provide editorial strategic planning, direction and support across Exelon’s communications organization, including serving as editor-in-chief of The Grid. 25%
  • Assist director of employee communications and executive thought leadership in employee and executive communications. 25%
  • Develop, manage, and execute strategic communications plans in support of business objectives. 20%
  • Fulfill managerial responsibilities regarding assigned staff (e.g. Employment, Compensation, Performance Evaluation, etc.) and participate as a key manager in career development and business planning. 20%
  • Oversight of external vendors in support of the content hub and related initiatives. 10%

Job Scope

  • Provides editorial strategic planning, direction and support across the communications organization
  • Must work continuously, effectively and skillfully with the Support Director of Employee Communications and Executive Thought Leadership and the staff of communications.
  • Position oversees and manages up to 6 communicators in the assigned region.
  • Responsible for staff communicators and their activities.
  • Requires significant outreach to internal and external audiences
  • Requires ability to work independently and in conjunction with directors, represent and back up lead as necessary.
  • Requires ability to travel.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 4-year relevant degree and a minimum of 10 or more years of experience in communications, journalism, or a related field.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills.
  • In lieu of degree, 12-15 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and management skills.
  • A high level of self-motivation and independence will be critical.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Strategic thinking ability; self-motivation; organizational sensitivity.
  • Excellent follow through capability; demands high level of performance from self and others.
  • Demonstrated managerial experience.
  • Ability to obtain unescorted access to a nuclear site, as applicable.
  • 3-5 years of supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in journalism or related discipline.
  • Significant experience in editorial communications.

  • Annual salary will vary based on a candidate’s skills, qualifications, experience, and other factors: $134,400.00/Yr. – $184,800.00/Yr. plus an additional $25K in Long Term Incentive Plan annually.
