What We Do
Push your artistic talent to the limit on a team of world-class environment, character and concept artists who strive to innovate and inspire.
What You'll Do
Epic Games is seeking a Technical Art Director to help define the visual and technical direction for our next-generation mobile experiences. You’ll bridge art and engineering to deliver exceptional visuals that perform seamlessly across a wide range of devices—from high-end hardware to mid-tier mobile platforms. You’ll build tools, pipelines, and rendering solutions that empower artists to create beautiful, efficient, and scalable content in Unreal Engine.
In this role, you will
-
Lead and mentor a team of technical artists focused on delivering optimized, high-quality visuals for mobile and cross-platform experiences; partner with art, design, and engineering to balance visual fidelity, performance, and production efficiency.
-
Develop and maintain material, lighting, and rendering workflows that support both mobile and high-end platforms.
-
Build tools and pipelines that enable efficient iteration and validation across a variety of device profiles.
-
Establish and uphold standards for asset optimization, texture compression, and draw call management.
-
Profile, analyze, and optimize content to ensure consistent performance and scalability.
-
Collaborate with gameplay, animation, and VFX teams to ensure visuals support gameplay readability and responsiveness.
-
Contribute to defining technical art best practices that scale across multiple projects and visual targets.
What we're looking for
-
Proven experience leading or directing technical art for real-time projects across mobile or multi-platform pipelines
-
Deep understanding of Unreal Engine’s rendering pipeline, materials, and profiling tools
-
Strong technical foundation in shaders, lighting, performance optimization, and asset validation
-
Experience with both lightweight and advanced rendering techniques (e.g., dynamic lighting, post-processing, material layering, and virtualized geometry)
-
Ability to develop tools and workflows that scale from stylized to realistic visual goals
-
Familiarity with mobile GPU Frameworks, memory constraints, and cross-platform performance considerations
-
Strong collaboration and communication skills across disciplines
-
Ability to mentor and grow technical art teams, fostering both creative and technical excellence
-
Experience with next-gen rendering features in Unreal Engine 5 (Lumen, Nanite, virtual shadow maps) and strategies for scaling them across hardware tiers
