Organization Overview

The Packaging & Device Module includes multiple production and packaging areas dedicated to the assembly and packaging of devices and autoinjectors for cartridges and syringes, specifically:

  • Devices for cartridges: Apollo Device Assembly and Packaging Line
  • Devices for syringes: IRMA R2 and R3 Device Assembly Lines and Dividella Packaging Line

Production and Support teams, including Maintenance, operate on shift patterns that may vary by area (from 2x5 up to 3x7).

  • The Packaging & Device Maintenance Sr Manager is part of the Site Engineering Organization, reporting to the Associate Director
  • Process Engineering Packaging Device & Logistics. The role leads a team of approximately 25 Maintenance Technicians and is accountable for ensuring that all maintenance activities are planned and executed in full compliance with Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) standards.

Responsibilities

As the Packaging & Device Maintenance Sr Manager, you will be accountable for people leadership, safety, quality, and operational excellence within the Packaging & Device Maintenance area.

Key responsibilities include:

  • People and shift leadership Provide strong on-the-floor leadership for the Maintenance organization, ensuring effective shift coverage, team organization, and engagement.
  • Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)Champion a strong safety culture by ensuring full compliance with Lilly HSE standards and local regulations. Lead and review maintenance risk assessments, promote positive safety behaviors, deploy safety initiatives, and exercise Stop Work Authority when required. Lead the maintenance safety teams for the area.
  • GMP and Quality Compliance Ensure maintenance activities are executed in full compliance with GMP requirements, from preparation through execution, spare parts usage, return‑to‑service activities, and complete documentation, in line with data integrity expectations. Ensure appropriate escalation and the application of Stop Work Authority when needed.
  • Training and capability development Ensure all direct reports are appropriately qualified, trained, developed, and remain in ongoing compliance with GMP and Lilly expectations for maintenance professionals.
  • Cross-functional collaboration and Team Lilly mindset Promote a strong Team Lilly culture that fosters collaboration between the Manufacturing and Maintenance teams. Actively support and further develop Total Productive Operations initiatives, enabling technical skill development, engagement, and recognition across teams.
  • Standardization and continuous improvement Ensure maintenance alignment and consistency across shifts and teams, managing effective handovers, information flow, and standardization of maintenance procedures, in close partnership with Process Engineering. Contribute to SOP authorship where required.
  • Performance management and reliability Own maintenance performance results, including KPIs related to maintenance planning, work order execution, HSE, quality, and data integrity. Drive equipment reliability and maintenance effectiveness through critical review of preventive, corrective and predictive maintenance strategies.
  • Planning, budgeting and materials management Ensure effective planning and coordination of maintenance activities, including production impacts and shutdowns. Guarantee the availability of appropriate spare parts and manage the Maintenance Operational Expenses (OPEX) budget responsibly.

Basic Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in engineering roles with people or team coordination responsibilities.
  • Proven experience with automated production lines (packaging and/or assembly preferred), including maintenance practices and safety regulations (e.g. PES/PAV, SPA, Lock‑Out/Tag‑Out)
  • Fluent English
  • Proven ability to lead, engage and collaborate effectively with diverse teams
  • Acts with integrity, accountability and a strong sense of ownership in every aspect of the role
  • Experience in a GMP‑regulated manufacturing environment is a valuable asset

This position requires working on-site, and includes 4 days of remote work per month.
